The best guide to The Vampire Diaries - official or not
Love You to Death: The Unofficial Companion to The Vampire Diaries is a comprehensive guide to the hit CW television series. Author Crissy Calhoun chronicles how L.J. Smith’s bestselling young adult books caught the attention of Hollywood and were developed into a supernatural drama for television. Also included is an episode by episode review of Season 1 detailing the writers, directors, and guest stars along with summaries, continuing themes, “The Diabolical Plan” of the villains, “History Lesson(s)” about what’s been learned about the characters and the town of Mystic Falls, the differences and similarities with the books, and the music that was featured. Additionally, she provides biographies for the main cast members and interviews with some of the hosts of the online fan sites. An unabashed fan herself, Calhoun’s love and passion for the show comes through in her writing; which makes it very personable and engaging. Extraordinarily well-crafted, Love You to Death: The Unofficial Companion to The Vampire Diaries is an in-depth and captivating look at this remarkable television show.

Fun Sparknotes-like Guide to The Vampire Diaries
"Love You To Death" is an episode guide to the first season of the popular television show, The Vampire Diaries. This book reminds me of spark notes to season one of the show.Book Set-Up*First, the book starts with an intro on how each episode is summarized and set-up. The next chapter provides a bit of information about the writer of the Vampire Diaries book series, L.J. Smith, and tons of info about the shows creators.*Next is a section of bios on the major characters/cast of TVD, from how their careers started to where they grew up, there are several bits of information on each each actor/actress.*Next is the main part of the book, the episode guide. The guide is outlined episode by episode with the same questions and categories answered about each one. There is also random information thrown in throughout the episodes summaries about behind-the-scenes, related books and movies that the episodes drew inspiration from, minor character bios and more.*In the middle of the guide is 9 full page, colored pictures of the main characters along with a few quotes from the show.*The last sections of the book includes three interviews and a time-line. The first interview is with the writers of a book called, "A Visitor's Guide To Mystic Falls," which is a collection of TVD essays. The next interview is with one of the extras who works on The Vampire Diaries show, who tells us what it's like working the main characters as well as how it feels to watch the show in the making. The last interview is with TVD cast member Malese Jow, aka Anna.*The last section of the book is a time-line in which Calhoun tries to place together each event, going all the way back to the 1400's, from the first season of The Vampire Diaries. The episode summaries are very well done and organized. If you are a reader of the TVD book series, you will love that the author brings up events from the novels and shows how certain events in the show are both alike and different from the events in The Vampire Diaries novels. I really liked the behind-the-scenes parts and the character interview with Anna. The related books and TV show bits were very well used to break-up the episode summaries as well show all the inspiration the show draws from similar works, which makes the book seem more informative overall. I would have loved if there were more cast interviews and I think the only thing missing from this guide is a small section where the entire season is summarized as a whole, as well Calhoun's overall thoughts - That would have been a nice addition after reading the individual episode summaries.Overall, I think this is a very handy guide to read after you watch the first season of The Vampire Diaries. "Love You to Death" not only summarizes each TV episode, but gives you other information about the characters, creators, and the shows inspirations.

Love these ALMOST as much as I love TVD!!!
I started with ordering the first 3, used & cheap, because I wasn't sure what to expect....I was worried it would literally just be re-caps of each episodes, things that every TVD viewer already knew, and honestly, I was worried it would just be redundant. I received Season 3's "Love You to Death" in the mail first (unfortunately), and started reading it instantly. It wasn't the redundancy I worried about, and before I knew it, I was 70-some pages in!!! I received this one, Season 1, just a few days later and put down Season 3 so I could start from the beginning. This series of books is a MUST HAVE for every true Vampire Diaries fan (which I am....everyone who knows me knows not to even call me on Thursdays between 8-9pm)!! It doesn't just re-cap the episodes, scene for scene. It does explain what happens in the episodes, but it goes deeper. If you are a true fan of the show, buy this!!!! Trust me, you won't regret it!!!!! I can't wait for Seasons 2, 4 and 5 to show up in my mailbox....and I can't wait for Season 6 to be written!!!!

An essential purchase for all TVD fans
I have been a HUGE fan of this show ever since I started watching it last September, but as I live in Ireland I had to download the episodes each week as they aired in the US. I have since watched each of them five times and absolutely love everything about the show as a whole. IMO it's the best new TV show since 'LOST'.As soon as I heard there was going to be a companion book to the show I just had to purchase it and I am SO happy I did. This book is FANTASTIC and I have read it several times since receiving it. There is a Season 1 episode guide, but unlike many guides that just say what happens in each episode, this goes directly into the heart of everything and details what the consequences of each character's actions will be, which I find REALLY interesting, as it really gets you thinking. The cast itself has been perfectly chosen and there is also a section of the book that's devoted to the actors and actresses as well as the show's creators, Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec and even L.J. Smith, who wrote the source material that the show is based on.I really hope there will be a similar book published for Season 2 and please don't let the word 'Unofficial' on the cover put you off purchasing this, as it's truly a must-buy for all fans of the show.

Never got my order
Ok so I ordered this book and never got it. They sent me the 2nd season edition which I already had. I even took the time to write the company and explain that they messed up the order and never got a return message. So they have my money and I never actually got what I ordered. Won't be going with them again.
