2010 HD DVD release from the Jazz saxophonist. Kirk Whalum elevates his award winning Gospel According to Jazz series to a new level with a live-recorded DVD set featuring the best in Contemporary Jazz, Gospel and Urban music. This effort, both visually and audibly, demonstrates the deep connections between Gospel and Jazz. It's revised renditions of commonly known tunes socially connect with the listener on a horizontal level that seeks to usher in a vertical spiritual relationship. Features guest appearances from George Duke, Lalah Hathaway, Doc Powell and others.

Done It Again
Kirk Whalum has really captured the essence of a creative musician with a godly heart! I am moved by a man that deeply loves the Lord and can see God in everything! The more we follow after God, the more we see his handiwork. I have all three of Kirk's Gospel According to Jazz series and I am very impressed in the depth the this DVD shows. Kirk exposes his love for God and his people starting with the prayer at beginning, through his narrative of gospel music and how the common thread of music itself belong to God, and the inclusion of others that have a mind to uplift the name of the Lord. Along with one of the masters of the keyboard, George Duke, Lalah Hathaway, and Whalum klan (lol), and others, you cannot but have a spiritual experience as these men of God display a transparency that make you feel and touch the Master of All! Thank you Lord and thank you Kirk for allowing God to use you in this wonderful way. I highly recommend this DVD for anyone that understands the no matter what the genre, God can be displayed because of the vessel.

Excellent in every way
I have to start out by saying the music is great. Even more important, there are many facets to this performance/documentary that touch the depth of the heart and soul with an understanding that ties everything together to give God the glory. God speaks here. Kirk Whalum does an excellent job of explaining to break down walls of misconception and limitations in a natural, easy going and loving manner. I'm in awe of the talent in this family as well as all the other musicians. I continue to play it over and over again, loving it so much I bought the DVD to watch at home and the CD to play in the car!I can't say enough good here, and hope there will be another performance and or recording in the future by this family that I can get my hands on! :)

Mostly Jazz
Love the jazz, but the other is to satisfy those in attendance whom are not jazz fans, apparently. Not as good as Chapter II, in my opinion.

Such a wonderful recording (My actual rating is 4
Such a wonderful recording (My actual rating is 4.9).My only diappointment is, I wanted to see more of the things I heard on the audio cd that are not part of the DVD. Some of the interludes, intros and personal engagements on the cd were missing (I.e. those involving Uncle Peanut). The DVD however does have Kirk up close spitting knowledge relevant to music and social history. The music entertains you, while the Whalums display a cohesive and talented FAMILY....something loved by The Almighty God.

Christian Jazz DVD for the year
This is an excellent DVD, showed that Jazz can be played by Christians, prayer before he started the concert, dedicating the show to the Almighty. Brought his son, brother, nephew and Uncle 'Peanut' Whallum to improvise. He proved that music was transferred to him by his uncle while he taught the rest of his family this great skill. The music was well organised and the stage show including improvisation soothes the requirement of the audience. It is a must get DVD for all practising Christian Jazz lovers and other Jazz lovers who recognised the presence of the Creator.
