Smartwool PhD Outdoor Light Mini Socks - Men’s Wool Performance Sock

Pretty impressive. I don't own any hiking socks but bought these for a hiking trip. The cost is steep for 1 pair! But they functioned great, on multiple hikes of many miles. And I was worried they would be hot but somehow they are not. Very comfortable and they have a nice shape tailored to a foot so they stay on pretty well. They run a little big I would say though, be aware. The only negative thing is the price, which precludes buying more than 1 pair of these.

I was hesitant to try what I feel is an expensive pair of socks. I purchased these socks for riding bicycles in cold weather. The cheapo white socks I was using didn't provide much warmth during long rides. So, I ordered these socks to try and WOW! Once you put the first one on your feet, you will probably say "OMG, these are amazing!"They are so soft and comfortable, they make me want to throw away all of my other socks. So, I went for a ride in near freezing temperatures wearing theses socks. They worked great! They are a bit thicker than my cheapo socks, but not too thick as to need a larger shoe to be comfortable. They kept my feet nice and warm. I wear theses every time I ride my bike, as a treat to myself. They are holding up well to frequent washings. I cant wait to try them this summer to see how well they perform in warm or hot weather.

I bought these socks for traveling in a hot locale. These socks fit my three requirements: 1. well padded; 2. wool or some similar blend so I can wash them at night and they'll dry quickly; 3. don't make my feet feel hot.On the first point, these socks are padded only in the toes and heel which is fine because those are the two areas that get impact. The rest of the sock is less padded which makes them feel cool (not hot) so they fit my third requirement quite well. On the second point, don't be put off by the word "wool" in "Smartwool". These are NOT itchy socks, they're quite comfortable and they do dry quickly. I've used Thorlo light hiking socks for years and they're fine. But I was looking for something a little cooler (or something that at least felt cooler).

I bought these for walking the Camino de Santiago. After trying lots of socks and combinations (liners and socks) I got these on the recommendation of a friend. Best move I ever made! Lost all the lines and tossed all the other socks. Not a single blister, and many of my friends suffered greatly. If you're going to hike, get these socks!

This is the 5th pair of these that I have purchased. My favorite thing about them is that they do not smell after a few wearings. Does this mean I am a slob? Perhaps. My least favorite thing about them is that the stitching that makes the top folded down comes undone after a few months. But I wear them a lot, for every day running shoes/walking and in my hiking boots. They are a bit pricey but well worth the cost. I don't know about you, but my feet are dear and worth it!

Great socks. Super comfortable. I've worn only merino socks for over a decade and have tried many brands, that are comfortable but wear out quickly. So far, over a few months of usage, these don't show any wear. Granted, I rarely wash merino and if I do I'll do it by hand in the sink because washing machines tend to destroy them, but these have been treated the same as all of the others and they're holding up better.Also they've clearly put some thought into the design and sewing of these socks which makes them comfortable and supportive. I've had some from other brands which were just like putting your food in a big unsupportive tube. These socks are much better!

I just received these today. I was excited to try them on as I own a lot of Merino wool clothing. As soon as I opened the packing that excitement faded quickly. The material is extremely coarse. As far as fit goes I purchased the XL as I have a size 13 foot. They are snug fitting but not uncomfortably so at least not on first wear. They do rise just above the ankle as you would expect. I'm wearing them as I type this to give them a fair review but I can say quite honestly I am not pleased with these socks. My disappointment comes from my expectation of a soft material and my previous experience with Merino wool. I quite frankly expected better quality than these present.

I hate to pay this much for socks, but it’s simply worth it. If you’re battling athletes foot, Smartwool is a game changer, but the socks are awesome regardless. And if you think wool is just for the cold - not this wool. If I had enough pairs I would wear them 365 days per year. I have enough to wear them at least 300 days a year. It’s the only clothing I own that I hand wash, which is what I recommend. At the risk of stating the obvious, do not put them in the dryer.

I am walking the Camino de Santiago and needed something like this for my feet. These socks help my feet to take an incredible battering. They keep my feet dry in the terrible heat, they don't smell, they keep my feet cool, they have great padding and I haven't gotten any blisters. I think I will always wear socks like these at home in my casual clothes. They are just too comfy to go back to other socks. They are even sufficient padding to walk around barefoot which is a real feat after a 25km day! Time to invest a little more in your feet.

Really great lightweight but cosy comfortable socks. I don't have shoes specific for cycling so often my feet get cold but if I pop these on they stay really cosy!

Comfortable and good size. Wish there are more colour choice.
