Is the color of the actual toothpaste black?

No, it's sort of a beige color and the licorice or anise flavor is pretty mild. I found that a more pleasing and slightly more pronounced flavor can be found in the less expensive natural toothpaste by Natures Gate- 6 big tubes for $21!

is it vegan? i know it has glycerin in it but that could go either way.

From their Q & A , No, Marvis does not currently contain fluoride. Marvis is also cruelty-free, and vegan, using no ingredients of animal origin, and is gluten-free and paraben-free.

Does the 2017 version have fluoride?

I actually don't know if it has fluoride as I don't have any at present, I definitely plan to purchase it again though. It is a great toothpaste with a very pleasant licorice flavor & one I really recommend. Try it!
