Quality build, solid construction, extra seals, hopefully a one and done!
I metal detect, so the red light is sweet. I was afraid the 5 lumens of red wasn't going to be as efficient as it is. I was gladly wrong on my behalf. I juggled the HM65R model and the HM71R. I seen to many burnt bults/lenses on the 71R, figured I didn't need that bright of a light. I travel so the 3 second hold to turn the light on is absolutely perfect. I'm not afraid it's going to turn on by itself as compared to the 0.3 second such as the HM71R model. People had issues with it burning fabrics and car seats etc. I was really stuck on the HM65R model, but studied the reviews and YouTube and found out it had a smaller battery. But boasts it has double the efficiency on battery consumption such as a governor to lock the volt draw. I found it doesn't last half the time frame and stuck the the 3rd most purchased unit on their page. The first 10 mins while making this review in the absolute dark on the low mode in general. I will say the top band strap for the head could be worked on. I noticed they made a turning adjustable snow board boot binding almost style head band on another model that is highly sought for due to how light it is, and that factor. I would love to get a turn tighting/loosing style band. If they ever make a head band that's universal for their products as such. I will gladly buy it instantly!! It seems you can take the top strap portion off, could be wrong in the dark still in my hotel room haha. If its sewn on, it could cause a slippage even with the silicone strap. I had that issue with another product. Never stayed on tight enough, when walking it flop down in my face. But this feels actually snug and comfortable. I've worn 3 light zooming optical forms of headlamps with battery packs in the back of the head band for many years as a mechanic/boat mechanic. This is the cats a$$ for a head light. The red light is gonna keep me a bit more discreet at the local parks as dusk falls around 6:30pm now. It's a bummer to end a good day at 6pm-6:40pm and have hours to sit at home. 2 meters water proof will be great in heavy rain to never fret about it being funky down the line. Came with an extra seal for battery area which is very nice! So far, im super happy. Hope this last for many years to come. I don't feel any heat whatsoever 10+ mins deep wearing it in a 70°F hotel room. I work construction and fly for work. So I will keep the updates as I will use it religiously (6 if not 7 days a week)

Best headlight I've ever owned
I have an older version of this light that I love, but I like this one even better. USB-C charging, brighter light, and flood and spot instead of just a general use spot beam are all nice improvements, but the red light may be the biggest one. In the older version the red light mode was almost unusable because it was too dim. This one is actually bright enough for you to move around and do basic tasks with. It's nice for hunting or anytime you need just a little light but don't want to ruin your night vision. I guess I shouldn't understate how great the flood settings are. It is fantastic for any work, or general close up lighting needs. Very bright uniform light, with a very natural color temperature. The switch is large and easy to press, but won't get pressed accidentally. You hold to turn on spot mode, and then click through settings on it, then hold to turn off. You double tap to turn on the red and flood mode, and click through its settings the same way. You hold again to turn off. I was recently trying to help a buddy run a 100K by pacing him at night, and used the light on a lower flood setting all night long. The battery life is pretty insane, possibly because of the 5000mAh 21700 battery with protection circuit that is included with the light. I was glad to have it. As a light junkie, I highly recommend these lights, and look forward to seeing what they make in the future. If something happened to this light I would order another one immediately. I use it all the time, and absolutely recommend it.

10/10 would buy again, but I won't have to because it is built so well!
Well designed and something I use all the time. It is useful in a multitude of situations. The light is extremely bright, and the battery life is fantastic. I have thrown it around, and it has fallen off my head several times, but it continues to work well. The threads for the battery compartment are buttery smooth (I thought this was very impressive). It is a bit expensive, but if you need a bright, reliable headlamp, this is the one I'd go for. The top strap is a lifesaver, and I wouldn't have a headlamp without it. The top strap negates any issues you might have with the weight of the lamp. Overall, great product!

Great purchase!
Quality product, easy to charge, happy with the lighting options. It is a bit on the heavier side but the head strap provided allows me to carry it well. I recommend it.

Outstanding headlamp - Buy it.
1600 lumen capability (until internal the internal overheating protection kicks in and dims its light output somewhat, which all quality headlamps do), four brightness levels on spotlight, 2 neutral brightness levels on floodlight, bright red lamp to preserve night-adapted vision, and equally bright SOS capability. Excellent waterproofing leads to IP68 certification. Outstanding design and construction materials - and like all Fenix items, unless you intentionally set out to destroy the product, it's essentially bullet-proof. Don't let the 100 hour runtime mislead you in comparison to the Fenix HM70R's nearest competitor in the Fenix family - the HM 60R and its 300 hour runtime... and that's a high quality headlamp too. The HM70R doesn't have the HM60s five lumen floodlight setting, and given the amount of light a five lumen floodlight casts, that setting seems almost pointless. When you compare apples to apples, in low lumen output the HM70R has a 100 hour 30 lumen output in spotlight mode versus the HM60's 54 hour 30 lumen output... and the HM70R has a 48 hour, 70 lumen output in medium floodlight mode versus the HM60R's 24 hour, 70 lumen output in medium floodlight mode. When you get to short duration, higher intensity light output requirement, the HM70R puts out 500 lumens for six hours versus 350 lumens for eight hours. I'll take the higher light output for the shorter duration every time. The only downside of the HM70R, and only a small number will even notice this, is that with all that capability comes a slight increase in weight... 7.27 oz with battery. That's not a deal-breaker, by any means, especially with the over the head strap that comes included which serves to distribute weight very well, but for many the "sweet-spot" for a headlamp is about 5.5 oz or less. While I don't notice that 1.7 oz difference, some "constant complainers' might. The Fenix HM70R is a campers dream headlamp. It won't replace my Fenix HM50R V2.0 Rechargeable Headlamp for use around the house while doing outdoor chores after sundown in the Phoenix summer heat, or for my astrophotography hobby with it's red light capability, or for intricate work of any kind requiring excellent lighting, etc., etc., etc... but the Fenix HM70 can't be beaten for a camping do-it-all headlamp with power to go and go and go.

Bright, reliable headlamp, one minor complaint
I've used this maybe 8-10 hours on several hikes. What I like: Very bright, battery life seems great so far, very granular angle adjustments - so it's easy to get just the right light angle, slightly recessed power button that you have to hold a couple seconds to turn on - reduces the chance of getting bumped on, in your pack and wasting battery life. The only thing I don't like is my other headlamps have a separate battery pack on the back of my head that evens out the weight, where on this one, the battery is in the lamp itself, putting all the weight on the front. To be fair, I can see the advantage being reliability/ruggedness with that, because there are no external wires for water to find it's way in, Or the wires could break, rendering it useless, which *has* happened to me. But the disadvantage with all the weight being on the front, this causes the headlamp to slide down my forehead and I have to constantly adjust it. On the way up, about every 30 mins, the way down closer to 5-10 minutes depending on how steep and bouncy my steps are. And I'm just hiking, I can imagine it might be really challenging if you're a trail runner. In the winter with gloves/mittens and a hat, it becomes even more difficult to adjust. So for it's ruggedness, brightness and reliability I'll save this one for the more challenging overnight, big summit trips. But for the more normal single day trips, I'll probably stick to my older lamps with the separate battery pack.

Impressive
I don’t normally write reviews but I got this for my husband to help him with work and he absolutely loves it! Great quality and stays on his head great! All the levels of light and water resistance adds to how great it is! My husband has been wearing it around the house all morning 😂 great light/brand!!!!!

Super bright!!
I wore this on an elk hunt this year, and it helped us process the elk in the dark, and I had to climb back to the car with this in the dark. This light gives more light than you could ever need and it lasted quite a while. The weight was fine, and I didn't even notice I was wearing it. I would recommend this light to anyone.
