Crappy hiking boots, great city snow boots.
What these shoes are: Great insulated shoes for urban environments during cold weather. What these shoes aren't: Great hiking shoes. As other reviewers have written, these can be a little uncomfortable in the ankle area. Also, the tongue is way too narrow and tends to sort of pop out, making it difficult for long pants to stay pulled down over top of boots. You'll end up looking like you're in Run DMC with your Adidas tongues sticking out. Also, as another reviewer stated, the sole is waaaay too soft and flexible for a good trail shoe. That said, they will make great winter boots for tromping around NYC in the snow. They're insulated, and kind of look like sneakers when your pants are pulled over the top of the boot. I'm hoping that they'll break in and become a bit more comfortable though.

Great product for a low price
I initially ordered a 9.5 size but were smaller than a New Balance running shoes that I have of same size. I ordered the exchange of this pair for a 10.5. The new pair came super fast and this time the size was the appropriate for me. The boots look great and are very comfortable. Although are light and flexible, the materials are of a very good quality: vibram outsole and upper made of genuine leather and GoreTex fabric which gives good isolation and waterproof protection. So far, this boots are a great product for a low price.

Love New Balance but These Hiking Boots HURT!
I generally like New Balance running shoes. Although now discontinued, the basic 475 model is still my favorite. However, these hiking boots are extremely uncomfortable for my feet. The tongue of the boot is not wide enough nor thick enough to give any padding to where the upper laces tie, so it's constantly rubbing on my medial malleolus. I compared the tongue to my Asolo and Ecco hiking boots, which are 4" to almost 4¼" wide compared these boots at only 3½" wide. The padding is also much less substantial.Maybe they are comfortable for others' feet, but not mine. Both medial malleolus were bruised at the end of the work day just wearing it around the office. I also tried using it with Superfeet (Green) insoles around the neighborhood walking my dog and it was painful after about 150 feet. OUCH!

insulated winter boots
These are advertised as hiking boots, but make sure you read the whole description. These are insulated boots for cold weather, not year round use. The soles are Vibram for good traction, but also very flexible, which is not what hikers want for steep rocky trails. Sizing is on the snug side, which is typical of New Balance, but may be uncomfortable if you're wearing thick winter socks. One unadvertised feature is that these boots have GoreTex uppers, which helps keep the snow or freezing rain from chilling your feet during the winter.

Was a little worried after reading some negative reviews, however, gave these shoes a chance as I have not had a pair of New Balance shoes that I have not liked. Tried the shoes on as soon as they arrived and wore them for the day around town. Feel awesome, fit is great. Cant wait to hit the trail with them.

Better choices out there..
This a just miss.. On paper they rock.. In practice they are fairly uncomfortable around the tops where they meet the ankle.. Maybe this will improve with more wear.. I got these on deep discount, so I'm ok with em, and will live the a little discomfort for awhile at least..
