Let me start by saying I love my DJI Action 2 Dual-Screen Combo. Before diving into the purchase, I did my homework to ensure it suited my needs, and I'm glad I did. While the design has its flaws, like not being super rugged and the second screen not being waterproof, understanding these limitations and using the correct parts has made all the difference. One issue I've noticed is heating, but since I stick to shooting at 4K 30 frames per second or lower, it hasn't been a problem for me. Most of my filming happens underwater, and for that, the waterproof case has been a must. When diving, I make sure to use the waterproof case, but for snorkeling, I opt for just the camera part without the second screen or waterproof case to keep things streamlined. The microphone quality is top-notch, and the size factor is unbeatable. However, there's a crucial tip I've learned for underwater use without the waterproof case. Before connecting it to the second screen/battery to transfer files to the SD card, ensure you remove the case from the magnetic protective casing and dry the area around the pins thoroughly. Otherwise, any water trapped between the magnetic case and the camera could lead to corrosion when attached to the second part of the camera. Despite these considerations, I'm overall very happy with my DJI Action 2 Dual-Screen Combo. It's compact, versatile, and has significantly improved my underwater videography experience. With a bit of caution and proper maintenance, it's a fantastic tool.

Looks great, size is ok, but it's a hodgepodge of issues if I'm being critical. The OS, swipe control, weirdly inconsistent menu system, I could ignore all that if it actually worked, which it doesn't with a SD card. I have the external module which connects via magnet and clips which seems ok, but it turns the device rather bulky compared to the small cube it once was on it's own. And also bizarrely, the module is deeper than the camera itself, so it more than doubles the size and gives it strange proportions. Trouble is that without the external module, the battery size is low and you cannot fit an SD card. So the module is needed really. That's all ok, I intended to use it as a replacement for my trusty but now old GoPro Session Hero 4, but it's now double the size. All understood and forgiven, especially when reviewing the footage it records and the clarity and steady options compared to the old Session Hero 4. ..But.. After a few weeks of using it after Christmas it's already a month old, everything seemed ok when recording to the very limited onboard storage. Fine, or so I thought. So, I later got a SD card to insert in the module, then the intermittently issues started to raise. Intermittently, it now shuts down when recording, it may do this immediately, it may do it after seconds or minutes, or not at all of a recording. Now as it was an intermittent issue, I thought it may be firmware, or SD card, or accidental disconnected module, or a myriad of other things that I could resolve. As I use this as a motorbike dashcam on my jacket, I also didn't test it regularly (as I'm now a dry weather rider only and we've had crap weather for months). I reseated the SD card, reseated the module, updated the firmware, bought a new SD card, it's on the list for recommended cards too. So going through an intermittent issue and going through those checks every so often over a few weeks and months (weather for the bike) for thorough time etc, I finally decided I've checked everything reasonable and it's still having an intermittent fault, so I should be able to rely on the warranty if not the Amazon 30 day receipt which has now passed. Wrong. The device was purchased through DJI's Amazon UK page, but it was sent from the US, so as far as EU support are concerned, any support is now chargeable unless it's sent at cost to the US for support. EU support won't resolve it without charging and it will cost me to send it to the US. So, maybe moving to DJI wasn't a good idea, I'm sending it in, but depending on how much they quote for repair, I may end up binning it and buying a GoPro again. I had no issues with the GoPro Session Hero 4 at all over the 10(?) years I had it, and the menu system and app seemed marginally better too. If they made a replacement model, I'd have bought that instead, but sadly they stopped the cube models. Maybe I'll get the new GoPro Session 4K, it's marginally smaller overall than the DJI Action 2 with the external module fitted.

Quick removal from mounting - clip/magnetic mechanism easier than thumb screws Sound quality even without an external microphone Negatives (for me) Did overheat when testing it out indoors, not done that since firmware updates and not getting any overheating. I’ve turned the screen timeout lower and auto shutoff to help in this regard, if I use it in the van (sometimes capture nice views when driving) Price - not cheap is it… think it should be about £100 less tbh I would be more comfortable with that I’m on-replaceable batteries. Not a fan of that idea at all, that said I am used to it with phones these days… Limited internal storage, although I’m tending to use it with the screen module attached so not really an issue for me. Note I’ve not used it in wet conditions Horizon steady is truly remarkable, but not a feature that I need, but if you do then it seems to be the best one out there bar none? (Or can you get it with the max lens mod on go pro, you would have to check). Ideally the main unit would be able to take an SD card or at least have enough memory to run the lifetime of the battery in the topmost resolution. 64 or 128GB it should be (or sell some sort of small attachment that allows it without the full screen/battery module Overall for my use, the clip on clip off system works really well for me. There I guess may be add-one for other action cameras that allow that but I haven’t looked. Image quality is first class except not for night footage particularly, although you can fix the ISO and shutter speeds *I think* in pro mode to help that, sure I saw a YouTube video on it. I use my iPhone 11 Pro Max when it gets darker - for what I need it’s the better choice.needs a bigger aperture like the DJI pocket 2 to make me choose to use it. Other negative no replaceable lens but I’m a light user so for me it’s fine, and I have DJI refresh which was about £30, just in case (2/3 replacements with a relatively small payment in the event of needing one) Will be looking at the tilta cases when they come out. Have the small rig one currently which gives me some peace of mind and includes a neat bag to store it Hope that helps Definite room to make it the ultimate action camera for sure…

Heat issues not a problem which some Reviewers had issues with , any cam at 4k and this small impossible not to heat after some recording time , at 3k recording there is no heating issue at all camera beats the insta GO 2 for me this is cheaper and much better recording at 4k , screen protector and case feels makes it so durable , totally happy with it 👍

4k overheating, it can only work for about 3mins, this test is in new latest firmware on 12 Nov 2021, so for £450, 3 mins 4k video, no, I have to return this faulty product, but I will buy dji again next year if they improve it. my original review before 4k test: it is so fun to play with this little camera, the cute modular design is genius. it very warm, I have not tried 4k yet, but happy with 1080p. It can be webcam for the computer as well. love it.

DJI always has good quality and I enjoyed their drones very much. However, this DJI Action 2 is an exception. The camera itself is good build quality and feels very nice. However, it overheats quickly if you use 4K and somehow the auto stop temperature can not be set to high in the UK. This is a disaster if you want to shoot long 4K videos. Another issue is the loose connection between the batter pack/dual screen and camera. The connection is through strong magnets. This problem developed after a few months use. The SD card, unfortunately, is inserted in the batter pack/dual screen. The loose connection cause the SD card not being recognised. So if you are cycling in the field, a bumpy road will disconnect the SD card and you will loose a few seconds of video. Very disappointing. I have not found a way to solve this issue.

Great small camera for POV content, small and compact and records up to 4K

I like the movies it produces. The provided software is limited. The design of the tiny camera and way it is crafted is timeless and beautiful.

Hab die Kamera vor meinem Urlaub gekauft und direkt ausprobiert. Erst war ich sehr skeptisch weil hier viele Schreiben, dass die Akkulaufzeit ungenügend ist und sich die Cam oft wegen Überhitzung abschaltet. War beides bei mir absolut nicht der Fall. Obwohl ich auch teilweise Videos in 4K und 120fps gefilmt hab. Das mit eingestellte Video ist unbearbeitet und kam „roh“ aus der Kamera. Ein zwei Kritikpunkte habe ich aber doch, aber zuerst zu den Pluspunkten: - Die Stabilisierung ist sehr gut, ich habe den Gimbal von DJI und selbst der schafft bei meinen Handyaufnahmen keine so gute Stabilisierung. Ich habe die Cam zum wandern benutzt und teilweise am Rucksack befestigt, dass ich laufe bemerkt man aber teilweise überhaupt nicht. - Akkulaufzeit: die war bei mir super (mit dem zusätzlichen Touchscreen) ich habe ohne Probleme 3-5 Stunden Material ohne zwischenladen aufgenommen (teilweise auch 4K) - Überhitzung: trat bei mir gar nicht auf, obwohl es heiß war. Die Cam hat sich nicht ein einziges Mal ausgeschaltet - Größe: ohne Zusatzmodul ist die Cam Umschlagbar in der Größe. Das mitgelieferte Band zum um den Hals hängen ist super. - Handling Touchscreen: intuitiv - Magnet: hält Bomben fest (auch mit Aufsatz auf dem Hunderücken am Geschirr) - Videoqualität: sehr gut, allerdings verpixelt der Zoom etwas, was mich aber nicht stört, da ich die Videos professionell nachbearbeite und den Zoom im Programm einfüge - App: viele Funktionen, verbinden war kein Problem Negativ: - Nur die Cam (ohne Zusatzmodul) hat nur einen mickrigen internen Speicher der nicht erweiterbar ist. Das nervt ein bisschen, wenn man sich die Cam mal nur um den Hals hängen will und mehr Material oder 4K aufnehmen möchte. - beim ersten Einschalten hat die Cam bei mir das Touchmodul nicht erkannt. Nach zweimaligem Neustart ging es und trat bisher auch nicht wieder auf.
