Another great Murray story.
There are very few Hannah Howell books I have not read. There are several loaded on my kindle to be read. Highland Chieftain is the 21st book in the Murray family saga. I don't know how she does it, keeping each story unique and yet keeping true to the Murrays. Reading one of her Murray books gives the reader a chance to visit with old friends. Although her storylines give us new characters, previous ones are always lurking somewhere. Highland Chieftain is a nice addition to the Murray line. As with previous books, it is fast paced, full of danger, intrigue, and of course romance. Bethoc lives in an abusive home, with a father who in his unhappiness beats his children when things aren't to his satisfaction. There are eight of them altogether, Bethoc and her sister, Margaret and six boys who the father has taken either from the streets or their families. He needs them to work in his fields. Bethoc tries to escape from this brutal situation by taking walks when she can be free. One one of these walks she finds Callum MacMillan, beaten, half drowned, and with a fractured leg. She hides him in her secret cave. And so starts their story. However, along the way there are a lot of issues, danger, and situations not of their making. This is another great read from Hannah Howell, a must read for her fans. I received an advanced reader copy at no cost from NetGalley for an honest review.

Highland Chieftan: Callum and Bethoc
Recently read Highland Angel (book 7 in the series), in which Callum was just a kid (preteen?) so it was satisfying to see Callum all grown up in his own story. Appreciated the glimpses into other characters from the previous book too.A lot happens in this book: Abusive stepfather. Baby stealing. Two separate land fraud plots involving murder, kidnapping, and false imprisonment. Corrupt law enforcement. It could be overwhelming, but somehow it works. And in the middle of it all, Callum opens his heart to Bethoc. Definitely a page-turner.

Welcome Back, Ms. Howell, I've Missed You
"Highland Chieftain", by Hannah Howell, is a continuation of a series of books about the Murry clan in Scotland. I loved it. This is the story of Callum and Bethoc. It's filled action and adventure as both the hero and heroine rescue each other from serious troubles.Ms. Howell is one of my favorite authors. She has a way with telling a story, with a good eye and ear for descriptive phrases and dialogue that keeps the story moving. The plot is good, and the characters are good decent men and women. Even the villains are well drawn. Her editing and proofreading teams are excellent. If you like good love stories about Scotland and the clans, with interesting characters who fall into their troubles at a young age and grow up willing to help and protect others, this is a book for you.

... romance that I have to say is probably my favorite book by Hannah Howell
*I Received an ARC for an Honest Review*Highland Chieftain is a well developed historical romance that I have to say is probably my favorite book by Hannah Howell. The characters and plot line are well developed and I love how Hannah Howell incorporated other characters from when Sir Callum MacMillan was rescued as a child. Bethoc Matheson is my new favorite heroine. She is a protector, smart, intelligent, independence and a fighter. If I close my eyes I can picture the Scottish Highlands because her description is like visiting Scotland in person. If you are a Hannah Howell fan or just looking for a new author/book to read then Hannah Howell is worth the money.

Spoiler alert...
Loved Callum when he was introduced in an earlier book (Highland bride?) but not as impressed with him in this one. He was a great protector of the weak, but then after only having a couple of meetings with Bethoc he takes her virginity when she wasn't even sure what he was doing! She was extremely naive and innocent. Then instead of being honorable about it, he is just thinking about when he can do it again. No talk of love or marriage as he continues on. I've just read so many Historical romances lately and most of the heroes KNOW that if they sleep with an innocent girl they need to offer to marry her.

Another Winner
Its been too long. Ms. Howell is a wonderful writer and the Murrays is one of my favorite series. Bethoc and Callom's story begins with the attempted murder of Callun. Bethoc, who like a lot of the Murrays has a special gift, FIDS him washed up on the shore and rescues him. Using her gift, she can tell that he is a good person , so she hides him and takes care of him. Bethoc has an unusual family of mostly brothers and one very special sister , Margaret. This story is filled with intrigue, kidnappings, murder, and of course love. In true Hanna Howell fashion you are entertained until the end. All said an excellent read.

Exhilarating Highlander Historical Romance!
This is the very moving latest addition to Hannah Howell's well loved Murray Family saga. I've always hoped that Callum MacMillan would get his own story, ever since he was introduced as a sexually abused young boy in the novel, Highland Angel. In that earlier novel, Callum showed promise of becoming a strong, unflinching, defender, champion, and caretaker of abused women and children. Highland Chieftain confirms that this early promise has been fulfilled. I also enjoyed the interaction between Callum and Bethoc, along with her siblings; especially headstrong little Margaret! Although this novel is part of a long running series, it can be read as a stand alone and has no cliffhangers.

Highlander's in peril
One with a broken leg at the bottom of a lake with a horrible past. One with the same past and looking for his Laird. A Scot's lass with five brothers that her abusive Father brings home one at a time and a sweet 2 year old sister. These lives intertwine in an exquisite story only Hannah Howell could write!! I've been such a H. H. Fan and look forward to her books with great anticipation! This one does not disappoint

Another great read from Hannah Howell!
I have collected all of Hannah Howell's books. She never fails to entertain with her books. I would recommend any of her series about the Murrays, but would advise reader's that all her books are a continuation of the families. They can be read as stand alones; however, I enjoyed reading about Sir Callum MacMillan as a grown man. I was introduce to him as a lad in "Highland Angel (The Murrays)".
