I am a big fan of Cadence (have several reels and rods) and was intrigued by the new Essence casting rods, so I ordered one. The rod came a few days later nicely packaged (rod tube with foam inserts), so no worries about the rod being damaged during shipping.First impressions:Build quality is nicer than price point would indicate - no bubbles in epoxy - no blemishes in windings - real knurled aluminum knob on reel seat - lightweightI put a Cadence CB8 on the rod and went fishing. Unfortunately, the fish didn't cooperate (caught one small bass that got off at the boat), but I was able to compare the Essence against two high end Japanese brand rods I have.Fishing impressions:- Casting I was really impressed with how smooth the rod loaded and unloaded when casting. A good indicator of the quality of a rod blank is how it feels when casting. The rod is very smooth and distance was on par with the high end rods.- Sensitivity Fishing a crankbait in 6-8 feet of water, I could really feel the bait bounce along the bottom. Regardless of what bait you are fishing, knowing what your bait is doing is very important. Again, it shows the quality of the blank. As compared to the high end rods, the Essence isn't quite as sensitive. This is to be expected as the higher end rods are 3x-4x the price. If I wasn't fishing the rods back to back, the difference probably isn't something I would notice.Takeaway:The Essence is a no frills, get the job done right at a great price kind of rod. I hope the lower entry price doesn't scare you away because the Essence is a much nicer rod than the price suggests. I will continue to fish the rod and update my review as necessary. However, given Cadence's track record, I don't expect anything but good things!

The media could not be loaded.  I’ve bought this rod a couple of months back and don’t go on a trip without it 6’6 medium light is insane I’ve fought 20s 30s even a 37in redfish I’ve never not once thought “man it’s about to snap” extremely tuff very light all around great rod and the price I mean it’s hard to beat

I have 2 Cadence reels. This is my first rod. They're a great company, so I figured I'd give the rod a try. First time I took it out, I thought it might be an ultralight rod it felt so light in my hands. But it has plenty of backbone. Very happy so far. Good rod, great company.

I bought this rod to replace a Fenwick rod that I broke. Loved the Fenwick but to replace it was going to cost more than I wanted to spend. Having previously purchased a Cadence spinning rod, I decided to give this one a try. At a little more than half the cost of a comparable Fenwick I have to say I am extremely happy with my decision. The rod is light and sensitive as described.If I were to ding the rod at all it would be that I would prefer cork grips as opposed to the foam. However, for the money I don't think you can go wrong.One last note. Looking at the illustration of the rod you see exposed threads in the foregrip but once a reel is mounted the threads are covered.

Great rod for the price and it has become my new favorite one! I usually fish for largemouth and stripers and this rod performs great. Very lightweight.

Light well balanced bait caster. This rod has the solid feel of rods that are three times the price. Great value in a strong dependable fishing rod. Highly recommend.

This has nothing to do with the rod itself but the people processing it for delivery. The was suspended in three foam collars then placed in a plastic bag and put in a heavy duty cardboard tube. I was absolutely shocked to see the care given to the shipping process. Delivered on the same day from Amazon I received another rod, different manufacturer claiming to be one of the best, rod came in a plastic bag in a cardboard box, no insulation, nothing. I was surprised that it wasn’t broken. If still deciding, go with a Cadence rod. You won’t be disappointed.

Reel seat isn't deep enough, I tried several Reel brands and none sit well in the seat, to many threads showing. That's why the bad review.
