Who Was William Shakespeare?

I've used several of the titles in this series to teach my ten-year-old grandson during the pandemic. This book is one of the best I've encountered. It puts Shakespeare in his historical context, explains his significance, and discusses a broad sample of his works. I think the book would appeal to children, age ten and older. Since so many of plays and characters are included, I recommend reading along with younger children. Highly recommend it.

Another great book in this series. "Who was William Shakespeare", was very well written and I like how the author.Informed the reader on what was known as well as the unknown. It does mention death and beheading, but I think itwas tastefully done. I really enjoyed the book.A few years ago I started reading and giving a series of Classic books to my nephew. After completing that seriesI found the "who was ?" series. All the people who I've shown or let read say these books are very enjoyable.

I feel much more knowledgeable about Shakespeare’s life and the plots of his major works. The book is packed full of facts and tidbits about his life, as well as some other notable people along the way (such as Queen Elizabeth, Marlowe, and King James). I definitely plan to reread this book in a week or two to solidify the facts to memory.

Purchased as a birthday present for a 9 year old girl, this particular biography was chosen because Shakespeare was involved in a Doctor Who episode! The book did a wonderful job of adding reality to the fictional depiction used in the show -- and helped broaden her interest to the works of Shakespeare as well as making him a "real" person. The whole series of biographies was new to me, but it won't be the last purchase from the series I make. I would recommend this to any parent who children have an interest in biographies, history or any relevant person. It may not turn out to be every kid's cup of tea -- but it's an excellent starting point. And at about 5 dollars a book ..... what have you lost?

A couple of things in there are not appropriate for 4th grade children. I don't think they even needed to be included by the author. Still a good book, but be mindful of who is reading it.

I never thought I could get my child interested in Shakespeare, but I have. *grins* The "Who Was" series of books have all been wonderful so far. The Shakespeare book even included a great vocabulary list, which I appreciated for our homeschool lessons. We also watched the sweet cartoon "Romeo & Juliet: Sealed with a Kiss" and are reading the Wishbone version of Romeo & Juliet. Haydn now recognizes and points out Shakespeare all over the place. This is a great purchase.

A quick and easy read intended for 1) busy people; 2) supplement to undergraduate study; and 3) high school students.Though I've read quite a lot of Shakespeare, I never took in a whole biography. I learned plenty all in a bite-sized morsel.

Who was William Shakespeare? Everyone should know a little about Shakespeare! A nice introduction to the enduring literary genius William Shakespeare. I recommend the "Who Was..." series to everyone! Cannot speak highly enough of this series. A fabulous collection of titles great for young and old alike. We have given books from this series to youngsters and grandparents!

Wish they had these books when we were in school.... English literature would have been more interesting having the backstory on authors.
