Woo, twist in the tale
Interesting story.. Several unexpected twists for an interesting tale. I wonder where it would have gone if it had been any longer?

Well written dystopia
Raise a person in ignorance and they'll be ignorant - in terms of the story it makes the main female character naive and a bit dumb. Having said that the story reads well. The author writes well and the world building is excellent. The narrative clips along at a fast pace making a for a story that's easy to read.*spoilers*The society described is horrendous, a rigid caste system enforced all for the benefit of a handful of cabal elite who can barely be described as human anymore. The reveal at the end upturns the story for me. Worst of all is the pacification of the main female character in the final chapter - hated it. Whilst I don't always require a happy ending, I find myself really distressed when the bad guys get rewarded.

disappointing
Started well and then rapidly deteriorated. Usually Eve Langlais' books are enjoyable and something to look forward to, but despite a great cover and the promise of a 'different' story it fell flat and with a less than satisfactory ending.

Disappointed
This book had the potential to be so much more than it delivered. Such a shame.

The Marked
Having been raised in an underground cave system where everyone wore gray tunics and who had assigned chores, the main character is hesitant when she realizes she has been marked and must leave the underground community and start a new life. I thought this book was well written and had characters with very different personalities. The ending will take you by surprise!!

kept my interest
I read way too many romance books and as a result I am frequently bored. I am bored because too often the characters and/or plot lines and/or anything else about the story has been done countless times before. Thankfully this story was one of the exceptions. As a result, it kept my interest. I was never bored. I read it in one sitting. There is no cheating and no sex with OP after meeting. She is a virgin and there is no indication that he is a manwhore, which is refreshing. There are a few sexy times and since I always want them included in my romance books I was happy about that. The story is mainly from the heroine's point of view. Only the last chapter is from the hero's point of view. I wanted more of the story to be from the hero's point of view but understand why it isn't.SPOILERS INCLUDED BELOWHEA/HFN? Depends on your definition of these terms. For me a HEA/HFN is when the hero and the heroine end up together at the end of the story and are happy together. If that is your criteria then this story is one of those endings. To me though the hero is not redeemable and the only reason that the heroine will have her HEA ending with him is that she will stay in the dark.

I read it in 1 day
This book may have seemed more weird to me if I had not read it after The Girl with the Gray Eyes lol. I enjoyed it a lot. At times stressful but overall very unique story and impressive world building. I would read a sequel if there was/will be one.

"A" For Effort and Amazing Creativity!
Wait- did all you folks read the same book as I did? This wasn't one bit funny or humorous. Maybe because I am older and in youth I was required to read "1984" which talked about Big Brother hearing and spying on everyone which is happening in the world today. Warning some Spoilers: The female H is plucked from the caves where all inhabitants are drugged and kept away from the the planet surface and even seeing the sun. If you imagine yourself a baby and learning everything from kept scratch that's what happens to her. She wakes one day marked and never to return to the caves again. The people in the caves are as controlled humans with no sentient awareness who merely are to provide for the surface dwellers. There is a rebellion of so called terrorists which the Heroine by chance becomes an unwilling victim. After many clever twists and turns she ends up saving the Hero Commander's life and marrying him, pregnant and living happily ever after. Hmmmm- or so we think until we find our planet is controlled and run by 19 SUPERPOWERS who are really IMMORTALS inhabiting our bodies. Our Heroine is kept in the dark as the rest of humanity. So since the Commander loves her we figure he's going to figure a way to make her immortal. Hmmmm. SOOO HEA? Maybe or HFN? You have to read and figure it out yourself!
