A Useful Video Adjunct
DSLR video shooters who look directly at the monitor screen on their camera without any loupe often have problems with light reflections so using a loupe may be essential. In addition, a 3.2 inch monitor is often too small to see details, even if you get really close to the monitor where you may have difficulty focusing. Enter the LCD viewfinder. This viewfinder provides a loupe with an eyepiece of 3x magnification. The loupe slides into a small plate mounted in the tripod screw hole on the bottom of the camera. There are adjustments to position the loup precisely over the monitor so you can see the whole screen, and it comes with an extender, which I didn’t try, if you use an add-on power pack. I found that this viewfinder met all of my needs as a DSLR videographer.I used to use another brand of viewfinder that hung down from the hot shoe on my camera. Although it offered a supplementary hot shoe on top it was not rigid enough to keep the entire monitor visible or hold an accessory mounted in that hot shoe rigid.Another well designed brand costs almost 5 times as much, and requires another plate if you want to mount your camera on an ARCA-Swiss type head. The Elvid plate fits directly into an ARCA-Swiss head. The Elvid has a rotating lens that moves backward and forward for focusing on the monitor. I couldn’t see any difference as I adjusted focus but the monitor always seemed sharp to me.The Elvid comes with a lens cover that was difficult to keep in place. This was not important to me as the eyecup kept anything from striking the eyepiece in my camera backpack. Some have complained about light leaks, but the Elvid fit closely to my Nikon D850 monitor and I noticed no leaks. However the gasket that fits between the viewfinder and monitor did come loose. A spot of glue solved this problem. The viewfinder is hinged in the middle so that the rear portion can be raised. I have no idea how to use this feature but it didn’t interfere with the use of the viewfinder. The bottom line is that I am happy with this viewfinder and glad I didn’t have to spend another $300 for the same purpose.

Gray market item
The item was defective. Turns out a tiny part was missing. Not covered by warranty. This was a gray market sale. Product is nice but not usable because of this. Be careful. To their credit Amazon has issued an immediate credit but I did not expect this to be an issue dealing through them.

Watch for falling parts.
I this used this on my Sony a7sii shooting video. The clip that holds the viewfinder down quickly snapped off. I also used this in more intense shooting situations where I was traveling quite a bit and 'running and gunning'. The screws on the side holding the viewfinder constantly needed to be tightened and on one occasion one actually fell off luckily to be found by a subject I was shooting. The hood fell off a few times only to be lost in a Haitian airport during my last shoot. It also came with a little cover for the viewfinder which was useless. It never stayed on, and I ended up taking it off and throwing it out.I cannot recommend this product.I purchased this on another site.

Helps a lot
Very well designed auxiliary gear for filming. Fits correctly and surely; very clear magnification. I use it on my Nikon D810 + battery grip. I would like that long rail could be metallic as the short one, except this, at the moment nothing to complain about. Recommended above all others.
