The Newer Technology Power2U AC/USB Wall Outlet is the convenient and energy-efficient in-wall solution for powering and charging USB devices. Now you can charge and/or power up to four devices at once when using the USB ports and the National Electrical Code (NEC) compliant tamper-resistant AC receptacles, while eliminating unsightly clutter created by multiple cables and bulky power adapters. Unlike other similar products, the port and outlet layout of the Power2U doesn't create "plug barriers". This accessible design enables you to charge up to four devices simultaneously! deal for users of multiple USB chargeable devices, the Power2U AC/USB Wall Outlet is a basic "DIY" install on any 15Amp circuit with a 16 cubic inch electrical box** to blend seamlessly into the wall as a standard power outlet. A "straightforward" rated "how to" video demonstrates how the Power2U can be installed in as little as 20 minutes. The Power2U is a money saving and energy efficient design that offers a modern, centralized location for charging/powering USB devices, the Power2U offers two energy efficient features to complement its use convenience. The Smart Power design only outputs enough charging power required by the attached device, while spring-loaded Safety Shutters turn power off to the USB ports to eliminate "vampire" energy draw when a connecting cable is removed. Fully UL-Listed and featuring NEC compliant tamper-resistant AC receptacles, Power2U offers peace of mind confidence. ** Electrical boxes typically range from 15 to 16 cubic inches. To determine the size of the electrical box you intend to install a Power2U into, turn off power to outlet, remove faceplate cover, and measure height, width, and depth of the box. Multiplying those measurements together will equal the cubic inches or volume of the electrical box. If you are unsure of how to do these and/or cannot follow all safety precautions, you should consult a licensed electrician.**

Don't Buy!
Do not buy. I thought having USB connections on my wall outlets would be convenient so I bought three of these units. I should have read the reviews first. The unit is very deep making installation a nightmare then 2 hours later after everything is finished I found it impossible to plug in my table top ice maker. There's something covering the AC socket, like a dust catcher, that's preventing the socket of the ice maker from fully entering the socket. I worked around the issue by plugging in pig-tail then connecting the ice maker into the pig tail but this is definitely not normalThere is also a small sliding door that covers both of the USB ports. I popped those off because I don't have the little girl fingers that are needed to slide the door open each time I want to plug in a USB device. I'm also afraid to plug in a USB device after reading some of the reviews.I'll need to replace this socket with a "normal" one and forget the USB connection. Save yourself the trouble, don't buy these outlets.

Less expensive, better quality but still a SNUG fit.
Be sure to read the note about having a "16 cubic inch" box. I picked up a 20 cubic inch just in case... the real issue isn't the depth but rather the width, single gang. I replaced an outlet in the basement. One that was in a GFIC series meaning both wires IN and OUT. Things were SNUG to say the least, but it tests out 100% and all the outlets still work. The price on this one is half what I paid for another brand for in the kitchen... this one has "doors" over the USB ports while the other one does not. Be sure to shop the prices on Amazon as the "best seller" isn't always the best price. As with my review of the other brand...this is a simple DIY but be 100% certain the power is OFF and the wiring is correct with the existing outlet before touching the wires...One of these testers Sperry Instruments GFI6302 GFCI Outlet / Receptacle Tester, 120V AC, 7 Common Wire Visual Indication, Wiring Legend, Yellow & Black is cheap insurance for both before and after.

did not work then blew out in my wall
Would have even left this reveiw if i could have contacted the seller but for some reason it wont let me so here it is. 1st like others have said you need a deep box to install it. when it arrived and we installed it, one side of the USB didnt work at all. Right away I should have called and returned it but we had just moved in and were very busy. my son just used one side that worked for his iphone. a month later we get hom e from work and the circuit breaker tripped and no power to his room. unplugging everything and removing all the bulbs didnt make the breaker stop tripping so there was a direct short somewhere. Now comes the electrician. an hour into it the USB wall outlet is removed and the copper ground wire had melted/exploded inside the outlet box. He metered it out and there is a direct short inside the unit. FIRE HAZARD written all over it. Luckily it was installed in a good safe box and none of the insulation in the wall caught fire or this review would be very different. We also purchased a white one for our other sons room, that one is coming out this weekend. Its too bad you cant speak to the seller after a certain number of days to alert them to this issue.

Works great
Bought this because I was tired of having needing to use so many devices plugged in to charge my devices, power alarm clock, etc.Pros:-Easy install and fit junction box in my 1980s home fine. (2 inches by-USB ports charged my galaxy s4 at 1900mah using stock cable which is the same as the stock charger. This alone warrants 5 stars. Charges my nexus 7 great too.-The Black looks great and I like how the usb ports not being used close.-Tamper proof plugs are nice.Cons:-You have to use the screws to hook up neutral and hot wires. This isnt like most plugs where you can just push them into the back. This causes problems when the wiring is not long.Note: I don't plan on removing the usb cables from this outlet. It will sit there forever so I cannot comment about the longevity of unplugging and replugging a usb cable into this outlet since the windows that close to feel cheap.

Will fry your electronics WHEN it fails, not if.
It destroyed an ipad left charging on it overnight. The manufacturer ignores emails. I had offered to mail the outlet to them so they could investigate to fix the problem for future revisions, they don't care. My guess is that the internals are really cheap. When the capacitor leaks or fails it will send pulses of mains voltage thru to the USB. Best case it will just short out your device, worse it will start a fire. Yikes, stay away! Very disappointing that the company doesn't stand by their product.

Added to the kitchen island as that is where our phones usually end up getting charged and it reduces clutter. One thing I didn't know when I bought it was the sliding covers for the USB are spring loaded. I wish they were not and simply slid over and stayed in place. It can be a little troublesome to hold the door open while inserting the USB cable. If I were to buy again I would look for one without spring loaded doors.

What a great idea!
These are the greatest thing for those of us who have so many gadgets to charge!A word of caution, however, because there is a transformer in it, it needs a larger box. Old construction boxes will not work. You will have to replace them with a larger box (it requires 16 cubic inches...my old construction box was only 12.) New construction will likely work without a problem.

USB Jacks DOA
Typical installation - easy if your box is pretty empty. The sliding doors to the USB jacks are tricky to open - a real pain if you're plugging and unplugging frequently. Why one star? The USB outlets didn't work! I'll order another one - but not this brand! I hope you have better luck...
