Drop Out And Get Schooled: The Case For Thinking Twice About College

As a college graduate, this book wasn't necessarily written for a person like me, but as someone who has advised others to go get their secondary education, I was curious about other opinions on the matter and I was eager to read this book once I'd heard the author (Patrick Bet-David aka PBD) was on the verge of releasing it.It did not disappoint.Being very much in debt from my own experience (a soul crushing debt mind you), I was curious about PBD's take on schooling, the necessity of it, the price, and anything else that maybe he had considered that I had not. I found myself in agreement with just about every point he'd made, especially when I compared it to my experience. What I got from it was all of that and quite a bit more. This book is a fantastic education tool, something that should be required reading for high school seniors at the very least. The book goes through the paces of who should probably go to college, who should look at community college first, those that probably shouldn't go to college, and even touches on the value of trade schools. It isn't meant to disparage schooling, in fact, it encourages it, specifically for those that need it to do their future careers (think STEM). What it does offer are questions to help you clarify why you're going, why you may want to choose another path to get there, or why you may want to look elsewhere. It also covers a variety of miscellanea such as the cost to produce the average textbook, the rising price of tuition, even the lagging average income compared to the tuition rates. Give you a freebie here, it's not a pretty picture, and as someone who is buried under soul crushing debt, I can attest to accuracy of the numbers.I'll spare you the details of my story, but I'll happily tell you that had I had this book, I wouldn't be a statistic, burdened by what has thus far been an unbearable, nearly un-repayable debt load. The system as it is, has failed me.My biggest criticism of the book is probably the cover. Sure the book catches the eye with the red, the trash can, and the title Drop Out and Get Schooled. Where I think it missies the mark is the small print for the rest of the title. The Case for Thinking Twice About College. I feel it should be more prominent, as it's is what the book is all about, but thats just my opinion.Take a look, you won't be disappointed. Expect to walk away with quite a bit more clarity about what you, or someone you're concerned for should do in regards to college. Please take the time to read these words of PBD, Tom Ellsworth, and a few other "guest" writers, they might just spare you from being a debt laden statistic like myself.Cheers.

Good points!
Drop Out and Get Schooled is a book that I can resonate with. The soaring cost of college is not necessarily the answer. The author presents valid points, like recognizing the importance of college for medical professions and other equally important fields. However, I agree that many other fields of study do not need to come with a large sum of debt. I liked how the author included a degreed professional in this book. It makes the author's college ideas more balanced.I quickly got interested in this book because of the topic. I enjoyed reading the author's journey to realizing that college debt is not something everyone needs to take on. Reading his personal account of things in life really puts things into perspective and it is interesting to read. The author had creativity with his first venture of surf boards. I recommend this book to anyone contemplating college. College is only one path to learning for many fields. He also includes some useful stats to provide more information that just an opinion book. Do you know the average student debt? Or how many students graduate college? His book answers these questions and many more. I agree with the author about many things. It was an easy and engaging read. Before you sign your name to college debt, please give this book a read. This book is also inspiring to read because it shows that you can follow your dreams even if you don't graduate from college. However, if you are planning on becoming a doctor or something similar then this book might not be helpful. Luckily, there are countless other career paths that work great for this book.

MUST READ!! Understand yourself FIRST and understand HOW TO GET EDUCATED
This is a MUST read book for everyone who is a bit confused about going to college and starting the correct conversation with yourself on WHY you should or shouldn't attend.THIS IS NOT A BOOK saying you should drop out, this is a book to help you better understand YOURSELF especially at such a young age of 18 to make the best decision about furthering your education and the reality of your financial INVESTMENT and possible debt which it will create for you once your graduate.Patrick does a great job of debating his own ideas and giving you great information for you to be best informed. College is not for everyone but BY NO MEANS DOES HE approve of a LAZY WAY out of not getting educated and saying I want to be an entrepreneur. IT'S a deeper self questionnaire you must ASK YOURSELF and be HONEST and get a reality check. Patrick also gives insight on some of the subjects which should be included in our education system which can help young adults in a big way to start their life on the right path and introduce them to the real world of true responsibilityMy personal experience is...I stopped going to College because I didn't know what I wanted to study and kept switching majors. This definitely would have helped my process in PROPERLY making the best decision for myself. It also gave me MORE CONFIDENCE in understanding it's okay that I CHOSE not to continue my college education. Ironically I am still trying to pay off my student loans for over 10 years. Will be done with it next year !Thank you Patrick for making me feel empowered about my decision and understanding education is a JOURNEY not 4 years and I am done.

Read this before you go to university.
I completed my first year of university (BBA) and I was pretty dissapointed with the content and started questioning if it was worth it. I had many arguments against university and the status quo of you have to go to univeristy or college. This book gives you a lot of clarity and goes over key decsion factors, this book could potentially change the trajectory of your life and save you thousands in student loan debt and most importantly TIME. Whether you're trying to be an entrepreneur or get a secure job, this book will offer a different perspective from what you've always been told by society and it will help you make that tough decision. I apreciate Patrick very much, his videos from Valuetainment and this book have changed my life. I look forward to reading his other books. Thank you PBD.
