Starter went out on Boat right before Labor Day weekend. Started arrived the day promised, was a perfect fit. This did have a Marine approved sticker, is very quiet and has worked flawlessly!

For boats, you want a sealed and sparkproof starter. It's not worth cutting corners on safety to save a few bucks. That said, the OE Mercruiser starters are astronomically expensive. This one comes in at a fraction of the price and does the same job. Will it last as long? Time will tell. I'm using it on a 1996 Mercury V8 350, zero issues. Quick and easy install.

I bought this as a replacement for my 1995 Four Winns Vista. It has an OMC King Cobra 7.4L. The previous unit, a NAPA rebuilt, took a crap on me (at the dock luckily). I've never heard this boat start so strong and easy! The previous would take a few sluggish tries before starting and I just wrote it off as weak batteries. I will say, if you are replacing one that only has 3 posts, this unit has 4. I'm no expert working on engines, but this might help another novice like myself. If you imagine the 4 posts as parts of a compass, put the ground (already attached wire) at south pole and the other large post for positive at north. The starter wire goes on the east post, and the west is left empty.

I only use my boat about 6 times a year. This starter is now 18 months old - so I figure it's maybe been used 150 times. For the first 6-8 months, it worked great. Then I started noticing it would just click on the first time, but would start the second. Then it got worse, needing 5-10 turns of the key to engage. The last time I went out, it took 10 minutes to start the boat and the solenoid tripped the ignition breaker 3 times. I don't feel comfortable taking the boat out now for fear it won't start. Replacing with another brand.

Way cheaper then the local Marina... Bolted on and switched wires on my 1996 rinker 4.3 gm in under an hour. Only time will tell how long it holds up.

Bolted right on to my 350 chevy Mercruiser and came with 2 new mounting bolts. Just to clarify this starter is indeed a marina certified part and it does have a sticker on it indicating just that so I'm not sure why others left a negative review saying it wasn't. I'd definitely buy again and my boat starts right up also the cranking sounds different with this starter ( in a good way).
