I have taken this to a professional and we still cannot get it to work.
I have not yet been able to use this as it appears incompatible.

Worked straight out of box
Although I have not yet had time to test this extensively, I am very pleased with initial results when connected to my MacPro with Apple M1 processor. The instructions advise use of software such as VideoLAN. I downloaded the MacOS version of this but I am not clear whether this is involved during playback.

UPDATED REVIEW - 25th April 2023. It no longer works on my computer. This was only the second time of use. I have contacted ROOFULL support to see if they can solve my problem. I have downgraded my star rating until they find a solution. If it can be fixed, I will again edit my review, hopefully with a more positive comment.INITIAL REVIEW: My new laptop has no CD/DVD drive, so I bought an external one. I received the ROOFULL External CD/DVD +/-RW Drive USB 3.0 Type-C with USB Ports and SD Reader over 3 weeks ago. I went with this model because it received good ratings and reviews from previous customers.I liked the idea of the extra USB ports, as my newer laptop also doesn't have the same storage capacity as my older one. I begrudge paying for cloud storage and, to be honest, prefer to have my documents, photos etc., on an encrypted external hard drive. We travel in places where internet reception is often poor. So, by putting my files on an external USB or a SD card, I can still access my files if we are out of range of the NBN.This ROOFULL drive seemed to have all the options I needed. Setting up the drive was easy - basically just inserting the cable into the slot on the drive and the other end in the laptop. You need a program on your computer that will let you watch, read, rip or burn DVD or CDs. The program would be one suited to what you want to do. I teach, so I wanted to read documents I had saved on CD and view some of my favourite DVDs when we have no TV reception in Outback Australia. It worked perfectly. This drive seems to work well. It has a one-year warranty, and the company has sent me an email confirming my registration, which has also been positive for me. I am pleased with my purchase. I was a bit unsure as to whether to buy this item as I live in Australia. You need a disk/USB/SD Card in the drive for your computer to locate it, as it is an external drive. As I haven't had the drive for very long, my review is obviously limited.

A Great external DVD/RW Drive
I was looking for an affordable external dvd/rw drive to read some old data storage discs, and backup some other legacy media to digital. This is a nice product for the price, as long as you know how to use it and what you're doing. It read pretty much all the data & movie DVDs I've put in it, but I don't think it can read or rip blu-rays. That wasn't an issue for me, but it may be for you. I got this to mainly rip & backup some movie DVDs and Playstation 2 games as ISOs for computer archive and playing digitally with PCSX2. Only one PS2 disc didn't read, and I think it was because it was a blu-ray disc. They make it very clear it's just the drive and cables only, you have to source software yourself. Really, the only thing you need to download is "VLC player" for reading/watching what's on the disc if it's a movie or music disc, and a program called "ImgBurn" for burning/ripping/converting the discs to digital files. These are both free software, and relatively easy to use. There's lots of YouTube help if you need it.It comes with 2 cables, and you really need to use them both. One is a USB-A to barrel power plug connector, the other is a USB-A to a split end with USB-B Micro & USB-C connectors. So it takes up 3 USB ports total, which is a bit, but it's important to use them all. I'd bet you can plug the USB cable with the power barrel connector into a USB hub or phone charger, but I'd probably make sure the charger is at least 5v 2.4a to make sure it's getting enough power. The only issue I had is the Usb-B Micro connector into the back of the drive was a bit flimsy and would come loose, and the drive wouldn't read discs. Reattaching it and securing it fixed it right away. This isn't really the companies fault, the Micro B connector is a bad interface and it sucks anyway lol. If you've ever used an external hard drive, you may know what I mean. The drive has pass-through USB-A ports on the back of it, but I didn't use those as I don't need them. It's nice they're there, though.I was able to rip all my non blu-ray movies no problem, and all but one PS2 discs into ISOs. All played fine on computer. I wish it could read blu-rays, and ESPECIALLY read PS3 discs for ripping & backing up, but that's asking too much for this. For what it is and what it does, it's a quality drive that isn't too expensive. If you need an external DVD/RW drive that doesn't need blu-ray, this is a good drive.

!!Great Drive For The Cost!!
Make sure that the DVD/CD is fully seated on the spindle. The first time I installed a CD it wasn't fully seated and the unit would not work. The enclosed power cord was not necessary for my application. The USB plug on the back of the Asus motherboard (a new build) provided sufficient power to operate the drive. My new build case does not provide a location for a DVD/CD drive and this unit provided me with a pluggable drive that I can utilize when needed.

FINALLY! Found this one that fulfills my requirements! Oh, Happy Day!!!
After buying and returning seemingly great, then highly disappointed external DVD drives, searching diligently, this one seems to fit the bill. I've now used it daily for a couple of weeks and not a single hiccup. The long connecting cords mean no USB extensions. The cord is not built in, so no tipsy device, causing device stoppage and skips. I am in midst of huge project to convert my library of over 1200 titles on DVD to MP4 format. My collection spans over 25 years. Manufacture of multi-disc players is being phased out. I've had to replace a couple that stopped working....with used players. I had a choice of either dumping my library or getting the software to convert and then learn to use, no easy task for an 85 year person who is not a technical guru. I chose to back them up for use on external USB drives that can be connected to a TV and THEN had to replace my antiquated TV's with ones that were capable of handling the USB drives. All very expensive, but will save all my documentaries, stage projections, mini-series, series & movies to enjoy for years (hopefully) to come. And then there's my very extensive library of music to convert to MP3. I've worn out a couple of external drives and returned multiple drives that wouldn't perform to my needs. The ROOFULL seems to do the job and I could not be happier! Of course, I expect to wear it out before my project is completed, but until I do I can work it very hard on a daily basis. I'm long retired, so have the time to devote and now have the necessary device. Yippeeee!!!
