Buy this not tonie
Free content; amazing content to purchase; yse for years to comeWe gave this to my daughter a year ago when she was three and it has been such a game changer. We were between this and the tonie, and after a year with the yoto mini, we absolutely made the correct choice. The free content is amazing. She listens to the free yoto daily podcast nearly every morning and is very engaged; responding to Jake and following the prompts which might encourage her to draw; play would you rather; and other silly games. The radio content she absolutely adores, especially around the holidays as the songs typically are themed. Additionally every Christmas there is an advent calendar like countdown to Christmas where free short content is on the app which can be easily paired to a create your own card.We have purchased multiple cards as well. She particularly loves the musical cards, Now Hear This, and Mrs H, were the ones she started off with and the content was age appropriate, and entertaining. The five minute stories are great for her age group and she would routinely listen the stories. My favorite aspect of the yoto though is its longevity. My daughter will likely continue using this yoto well through elementary school. There are educational activity cards with STEM support, such as multiplication facts, and biology that we have already purchased for her. The geography, history, and literature content also ages up unlike the Tonies. There is some contemporary music available and you can always make your own cards as well to bond over music ad free and on the go.Finally the parental controls on the yoto app are very nice. I can control the maximum volume allowed as long as the yoto is connected to WiFi. We’ve preset it and never had to touch it again. No need to worry about hearing loss with headphones!

False Comments. This thing is great. Nothing else out there like this.
I want to start by saying that I saw a lot of false comments/reviews. I was ready to purchase a hotspot plan to use the yoto when out and about with my daughter. But after reviewing the 15 minute tutorial/files about how to use and the features I was surprised you don’t t need wifi after you download/add your card. They will play just fine offline.A lot of comments are saying you need to play the whole card the first time to be able to play it offline. That is also false. I was able to download them all without listening to all songs on tracks or stories.I will say it would be better to have a more visual manual or even tutorials. Some of the stuff is easy to keep up with during set up and some is more trial and error which slowed down my set up by a day cus I gave up.Set up goes like this- and cards will only download if done this way. ( I kept plugging in cards thinking thats how they downloaded..ooops )So youll set up on the yoto app. Link. Connect to wifi.Plug your yoto to power ( needed )Then go to library and select add ( do not plug card into yoto player) simply tap on your phone and wait for download to finish ( do not plug card in until All downloads are finished.)You can check downloads queue by going to the players tab. Selecting the player and selecting downloads. It’ll let you know when its fully downloaded. My daughter and I read daily. I know what keeps her attention and what doesn’t.One thing I liked is that the yoto website gives you 15-20 second previews of cards so you can a peak of what it would sound like. It also has recommendations by age. I saw a lot of reviews saying they where disappointing in the selection but alot said their kids there 4-6 and only cus something is Disney does not mean it will keep your childs attention. My daughter is 5. I got her music cards and peppa pig/frozen 5 minute stories.Yoto not only will grow with the kiddos in age with chapter books/science and history cards…but the parents too. The yoto company has 2 links one where you can submit software ideas/changes.And another for content. It doesn’t get better than that. They have free content too other then the radio and podcasts ( right now its xmas time, they’re having 25 days of free content. Music and books of yotos choice ) its not a company that is trying to pull your teeth out unlike the tonie boxes with their expensive figurines.I feel like I can confidently say Yoto is trying to keep the magic alive in learning, reading, having fun music available; all while helping kids stay off as much screen time as possible. The part I was appreciative on and blown away from was by how much you can do on the app.You can leave the yoto at home and play all the content on your phone. You can play the content on your phone and use the yoto as the speaker without plugging any cards in.You can control the volume, pause audio and change brightness on the yoto from the app.

Listen, learn, and take a break
The yoto box is a way to engage children to read without having to let your voice go hoarse. I was looking for something to give my young reader (5yrs) something independent of mom or dad to fill her need to read.It offers books on cards that can be bought or you can just buy some make your own cards and fill them with their favorite audio books with a little effort. The cards they make are a little pricy but are very well read.Additionally you can set podcasts to listen to or song lists on the make your own cards.Overall I enjoy that it was easy to set up and my child can use it without much of a learn curve.

My kids are IN LOVE with their Yotos
We got our kids (8 and 5yrs old) each a Yoto mini for Christmas and they are certified obsessed. My 5 year old really loves the Ladybird Audio Adventures cards and my 8 year old loves the Diary of a Wimpy Kid cards.I was afraid this might make the kids steer away from reading actual books, but so far my 8 year old will listen to Yoto and read the book at the same time. It’s hard to tear him away from the Yoto. 😂We like the official Yoto cards, but the option to make your own cards is invaluable. We have a lot of cards with music, books we can’t find in the Yoto store, and also cards with grandparents reading or telling stories. LOVE IT.Overall, the Yotos have been a game changer for us. Car rides are easy and quiet and the kids are happy without screens.HIGHLY recommend.

Yoto is a great media alternative with many options
Durable and charges for a decent span of time. Cards are endless with either buying or creating your own. Speaker is great for the size.

We love yoto - got mini for travel
This is our third yoto. We have two full size we love and usually travel with, but they were too big to take to Europe with us. The mini was easy to travel with and plenty loud enough to hear in the hotel when we were all listening. Only issue was that when it was in my travel bag it would sometimes turn on. Definitely has a shorter battery life than our full size and didn’t replace our full size for everyday - but great for travel. Aftee over 2 years we are huge yoto fans - since my kids were 2 and 4 and will recommend yoto to anyone!

So far, so good
I admit after reading other reviewers of this device failing, I am a bit nervous in writing this since it's been a great device for my 5 yr old. However, it's been 10 days so far, and the Yoto Mini works like a charm. It was a little tricky at first to figure out how the cards work, but yes, you need the app and WiFi connection initially to access the content, but after that, the child can use it at their leisure in switching cards.Since the Yoto is mainly used at home, it's easy for me to control other content for her to listen. She really enjoys the Yoto Daily podcast, and the free radio stations. However, it can be a challenge to find high quality podcast content if you run out of cards to play, and she's already burned through her 6 cards in a few days and already having relistened to them 2-3 times already. However, the extra audio options such as soundscapes, the toothbrush counter, are great additions I didn't expect she would enjoy. The Make Your Own card is a great idea, and I made a little music playlist for it! I love the audio jack option since we already have earphones she can use to listen to quietly. We just got her a second set of Ladybird Audio books (12/10 stars if I could rate them, she loves them so much!) and we enjoyed the preview of the Chronicles of Narnia's The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe that I just had to get the entire book series for her to listen to (a boon of nearly 34hrs of audio!!).Anyway, the whole family loves it, and thought it was worth the purchase!

Espectacular

Great for travel
I got the mini yoto player to replace my daughters original yoto player as this one comes with built in WiFi which allows it to be used on the go. It's very easy for young children to operate without any adult assistance, meaning that they can easily change their story card, change volume, skip a track or pause without getting frustrated. This is a great feature for is as my 4 Yr old hates car journeys but the yoto mini helps to relax her on a car journey.

Best Investment
My son loves it. He listen to it every day. We bought it as we had a long hours road trip. And it worked really well. Portable. Easy to use. He is 2 years and a half.
