Frenemies Rule
Encourages you to be nice to your opponents with fun rewards. It is a really fun addition to the game Settlers of Catan. It is a laminated paper with written rules and nothing else. Finally my son will play nicely so it is worth it!

Very Fun Scenario!
As a big time fan of Catan and a member of a monthly club that plays Catan I am always looking for new ways to play. This set is fantastic and adds quite a bit to the gameplay. It's a simple concept: as you do certain events you get the round tokens randomly then trade them in for perks. Once we realized how the perks worked it was a race to connect roads, give away cards, move the robber off people and so on. We got to a point where people stopped accepting free cards to stop people from getting the tokens! Hilarious!I love Catan and I love scenarios like this one. It refreshes the game for those who are looking for a new option to keep the game exciting. Highliy recommended.

Adds a fun new dimension to the game
Bought this add-on for my son for Christmas, and we played Catan using the new features. We loved it, and loved the ability to get additional resources by not attacking other players in the game. It added a new dimension to our strategy and we thoroughly enjoyed using this scenario. I highly recommend it.

Great expansion, adds depth and even changes your strategy.
This is a great expansion for Catan. I got this for my son and our family loves it. It adds a new element to the game increasing the depth of play and even changes your strategy for game play. For the price this is a great expansion and adds a fun new element to the game. I hope you'll consider getting this expansion you won't regret it.

Let me help you help me more :)
I really like these short Catan expansions, such as the Fishermen's of Catan, Harbormaster, Event cards in the Traders and Barbarians of Catan expansion. And now this Frenemies. They add a small addition of options to the game without the feel of dumping a boatload of new rules onto the game and making it longer and complicated. In Frenemies, you help your opponents by not attacking them when you roll a '7', connecting your road to theirs, offering them a resource card. They will love you, until they see you leapfrog past with your collection of favor tokens. Oh the favor tokens... they allow you to trade a resource (up to twice per turn), take a free resource, build a free road, grab a development card, even pick up a VP along the way. This is something we will incorporate in our games, along with the variants I have spoke of in my other reviews (Tournament Set up, Welfare variant, Fishermen's, Event card, Harbormaster, etc).I'm sure as long as Settlers of Catan has been around, for some, the game has grown a little stale. Try this or any of the other variants I listed. They may freshen the game play again. As I stated earlier, these short expansions/variants help speed up the game and/of give more interaction during game play. In the base game, often there may be players left behind, little you can do if the die does not roll your way or if you end up with poor locations, but these expansions/variants give more choices in the game.UPDATE 7/11/13: Gaining 3 favor tokens when you connect to another color road is strong. We had a 3 player game where my wife connected to both the other colors. She won rather easily. Also, to be clear, you only can exchange the tokens once, so either 2 tokens for a victory chip or a development card, or 1 token for the others. For clarification, it is still 1 token to perform the 2 resource exchanges and not 2 tokens to perform the 2 exchanges. Great addition because the expansion is so simple, it easily comes out at every Catan game. For those that like a quick game, you know what I mean, no needing to set up any special scenarios by referring to the book and text, or get reaquainted with additional rules, then having to explain the additional rules to other players, etc. Please click YES if my review have been helpful to you, it will encourage me to continue writing and updating my reviews, and leave a comment if you have any questions, I will be more than happy to answer if I can be of help.

Turning the Tide Through Altruistic Game Play...
My family plays Catan regularly and we have added this to our regular gaming rules. We have different levels of players and this has balanced the game to everyone's game play. Now, the player who doesn't want to "hurt" anyone is awarded for their style of play. Sometimes, even the most hardcore of our players takes the "nice" way out in order to get the benefits. The one thing we changed is that we play to 12 rather than 11. It seemed that 11 was too quick a game. This is a SUPER fun Scenario -- we hope to see more like these.

fun expansion!
This little expansion is a great way to spice up catan. My group plays about once a week. After a while it becomes apparent who the stronger players are and having a new way to play keeps the game interesting for everyone! The package came without any bends to the rule book even though it wasn't packaged in the toughest materials.Be mindful of the rules included. The junction/connection rule can be a little confusing if you don't read the entire section, front and back.Very fun!

Important note if you play 5-6 player games!
I wish I'd been told this: If you like playing with 5-6 players, you need TWO copies of Frenemies! A single copy is only enough for 3-4 players. This expansion/scenario adds a little variety to the game, much like Fisherman of Catan. The idea of rewarding people for not being jerks to each other is an interesting one that helps to keep the game from being quite so cutthroat, which is especially good when you play with newbies.
