LEGO Harry Potter: Building the Magical World

Kids love it
I had previously purchased the Lego Stars Wars book by DK and my 7 year old is still enthralled by it 4 weeks later. It is by far his favorite book and his interest in it has actually outlasted some of the Star Wars Lego sets themselves he got at the same time. My 5 year old daughter loves Harry Potter and legos (not to the 7 year olds level, but a shared interest at least). I picked this up for her thinking the 7 year old would like it as well. Mission accomplished. My daughter likes to read it and my son likes to borrow it. He will also bring his Star Wars book over and they will compare pages between the two. What makes both books so good are the large colorful photos, short readable descriptions, and the wide variety of figures and building sets they show. I wasn't aware that Lego had done so many Harry Potter sets from '00 to '05 before slowing down a bit until '10. As there are fewer Harry Potter sets then Star Wars ones overall, the Harry Potter book is more inclusive and the photos can be bigger as they aren't trying to put as much into the identical 95 pages. I was hesitant intitially due to the perceived lack of Harry Potter sets vs. Star Wars ones, but the books are both very good. Also the Harry Potter book is a more recent release and does include sets made in 2011 in its main pages, while the Star Wars book has updated only a small timeline page in the beginning. Either way, even as an adult these books are interesting to page through.Amazon's pricing is very good on both of these books, which do tend to sell at full retail at local brick and mortars. The little figure they throw in is a nice bonus. I liked them so well I have pre-ordered the DK book on Lego Star wars minifigs sight unseen. It shipped today so excited to see my little boy's reaction when it comes. Overall these are a great blend of books and toys that make my kids want to read them. I have no doubt they will remain staples for months to come.

Another well put together Lego book by DK
My kids (a 5 year old boy and a 6 year old girl)are Harry Potter crazy right now. They love everything that has to do with Harry and his magical friends. This fact, coupled with the fact that they are Lego maniacs is the reason I chose to purchase this book.We already have the Star Wars book and the kids loved it. But this one really sent them over the top! They sat down with the book for an hour after they first got the book and excitedly pointed out all of the different Harry Potter characters and places that were represented in the books. They loved the big pictures and the details of the sets that the pictures brought out.The real prize, at least in my son's mind, was the exclusive Harry Potter minifigure that comes with the book. He has been happily watching my son play Lego Harry Potter on the Wii for the better part of 2 days now! While the kids were deciding where to put the book when they were going to bed the first night they decided to leave it in the front room so that "daddy could read it" (I was at work)This book is a definite must for any Harry Potter fan or Lego fan!

Great iconic LEGO book
My son and daughter check this book out from the school library often. My daughter had sad she wanted it so they can reference all the Harry Potter sets. Now that the new Harry Potter LEGO line has come out I thought it would be a fun time to buy it. The book has all the sets up until 2011 I believe. This is even a great book for HP fans who don’t necessarily buy or build/play with legos. It has information on characters and sets. It’s quite fun to see famous Harry Potter sets as built with legos. The mini fig evolution of HP characters is fun to have a record of too. Plus, it comes with a HP mini figure dressed for the Yule Ball.

Good reference for Lego fans new to Harry Potter
It is always good to be able to look back at the history of a toy/product line, to be able to see the changes made, and have a reference as to what was part of what set and what year. Great for a new collector/builder!

A Big Hit
Bought this for my son who is six and loves both Legos and Harry Potter. He has spent hours pouring through this book. It's got a lot of great info and a lot of pictures. He likes to go through it and compare it to what he has and gets a thrill when he finds his lego sets and minifigs in the book. It's also got a section on the creators which he was very excited to discover. It has been in his school backpack for a week now. He has shown it to his class and his after school program which goes up to 5th graders. His exact words "It's a big hit!" He says he keeps bringing it because all the kids want to look at it and it takes time because they have to take turns.

Great Resource!
Excellent resource to help identify Harry Potter Lego sets. Especially helpful when trying to see if you have a particular Harry Potter lego set in a bulk lot of Legos. I use this resource frequently. Also full of fun, interesting facts. Not just for children! Great book- kids and adults will love to look at the illustrations and it's also full of great facts on the sets including the year of the sets, variations, unique pieces, set numbers, number of pieces, mini figure information, etc. Definite must-have for any LEGO collector, especially those with Harry Potter collections.

A perfect compliment to the harry potter lego sets
I was not quite sure when buying this book that it would raise any interest from my son who is an all time high fan of the Lego harry potter sets and who only have one wish for Santa which is Lego Harry Potter. But this book has proven to be a gem - he dilligently reviews the pages and the little details are checked against the Lego sets he already have and he explains in details why he needs the others. This book gives soo much details and fun information that it is really an add on to the Lego itself.

She hasn't put it down!
My 9 year old daughter has become a Harry Potter lego fan and has not put this very colorful, detailed, large and informative book down since she opened it Christmas morning! It is a huge book full of everything Harry Potter Lego. I've been shown page after page or this or that and she takes it to the computer when she decides what she wants next and compares prices of what she will spend her allowance on . It's a lot of fun to look at and shows how well the sets go together.
