Buy this book and change your life
The Values Compass is a road trip through 101 countries and their cultural values and what is so interesting is the way that these stories illustrate how interconnected we are through time and space. Author, Mandeep Rai, is a knowledgable and entertaining guide through our world finding wonderful characters along the way - both leaders and ordinary people - who tell the stories which inform the book. And she asks: what are your values? what do you stand by? In a world of so-called 'fake news" and increasing polarisation this book is a powerful and important commentary on how important it is to retain our values above all else.

Well written dip into book
This is an interesting read. Very much a book to dip in and out of. Not one to read from cover to cover. The author Mandeep Rai writes well and certainly done loads of homework to produce this booking giving the reader positive things to learn from the in 101 countries that are included. I did at times wish there was a few extra lines about each country however that does not take away from how good this book is. We all see the world from our own countries view we are products of the country we were born and grew up in. This book will expand our knowledge and help the reader see the world as other countries citizens see it.

A thought provoking journey around the globe - safe travels in a pandemic!
A thought provoking journey around the world. Whilst almost certainly not intended as such, it is nevertheless a reminder of what is good about people having a strong national/cultural identity. By describing the values which seem to ruin through each country she has visited, Mandeep asks the reader to examine his or own values and beliefs and to learn lessons from the values and beliefs of others. This book would make a great gift, particularly in these difficult and challenging times.

101 brief outlines of the values of different countries
This is a fat paperback book about how our values become our guides( or compass) in life. The Author has travelled widely in her life and encountered many different peoples and their own values ,101 of which she outlines briefly. The book is written in stages, each one seperated into different types of values and each one, an example of how cultures of the world use values to make the important decisions in their lives, and how we can learn from them to find our own important values. I found the stages a little pointless to be honestTo make the process of reading the book helpful, you must read each very short chapter and if the message resonates with you, make a note of the value. Not all will be of interest...They didnt all grab me and I found myself skimming those pages. At the end, you have your list, the things you admire about others and find you would like to adopt as your own values. An easier way to go about it, is to go through the table of contents which lists each value and the country she has attributed that value , make a note of the value, country and page and then just read about those values as they are already the ones you are likely to find the most interesting to read about. She advises short listing them and gives a method of doing so .Then choose your favourite 5 values and incorporate them into your life.I found some chapters extrememly interesting and others much less so.My interest waned quite quickly as it felt like some of the chapters were only vaguely matching the values she had attributed to them.I think this is a book for a well travelled person more than a book about self reflection really.

Great to connect with people
Amazing book! How often have you been working with people from x-different countries or been friends and after years of mutually spent time you think you know them? You don't. You know one or two aspects of them they typically display in a work- or friendship context. Our conversations often circle around 5 topics that stay the same. But reading the chapters of this book to each other (about the other persons country preferably) spins the conversation in a whole different direction.

A book in a league of its own
Currently working my way through The Values Compass and I’m in awe of the experiences and knowledge that Mandeep brings to the reader. She has been on an incredible journey and this really shows through the compelling descriptions of the values she has picked up on her way. Being an avid traveller, I haven’t come across any book similar to this, it really is in a league of its own. Highly recommend.

This book is the mixture of Culture, history , politics, economics etc
"The Values Compass" does not focus on one thing instead it talks about several aspects. I like the mixing and Author Mandeep Rai well-traveled he pictured everything quite nicely and presented leadership in this book. Also giving an idea about politics, economics, business, culture, free market in the book is really good. Of curse you cannot cover everything in one book in a few pages this is not justice to the issues. However, Mandeep Rai sums up everything quite nicely and this book is really good for any age I have learned a lot which I did not even have any idea about it. I definitely recommend this book to the reader.

Compass guiding you on your own values journey
Over the course of this book The Values Compass, Dr. Mandeep Rai recounts stories of her reporting overseas, international studies, and travels around the world. Her stories are personal and poignant covering 101 different countries. With each account, she explains a worthy value that the country — in her experience— exemplifies. As a Canadian, I know the context of my country’s more closed earlier history and how official multiculturalism and openness to the arrival of new Canadians. Dr. Rai sums this value up out of her own experience of my country in a readable anecdote.Countries, like people, have many values that they express to varying degrees. These stories should not be expected to or judged for how well they define the country, but as a set of easily digestible examples that we can take as helpful lessons. While still engaging and informative the purpose of The Values Compass is to help guide us through the discovery and development of our own personal values and incorporating them into the course of our lives as we work towards actualization.

A MUST Read!
"The Values Compass" allows us to view our commonalities, as global citizens in a "shrinking" world! It is a very thought provoking and insightful read. It allows to to reflect back on those key values and why they are so relevant, especially during these uncertain times! A MUST read!
