Into the Fire: A Night Prince Novel

Conclusion of the Vlad series disappoints.
I as looking forward to reading this book, having read all the other books in the "Night Huntress" universe. Sadly. I felt the story was padded and drawn out to the point of being annoying. It isn't a bad book, just not a very good book. Way too much time is spent describing the waves of emotion the heroine, Leila feels emanating off of Vlad; and the only emotions he seems to have are anger, love, and a rare, tiny bit of sadness. Most of the characters are largely flat and those with the most dimension are not the major players. The character, Ian, is always interesting in this universe, and I am glad to read that Ms. Frost's next book set in this world centers around him. It is a shame that she turn Vlad the Impaler into Vlad the Pissy Alpha Male, especially when he was interesting in previous books.

F grade for Avon
Welcome back, Jeaniene Frost. I hear you've been traveling a rocky road, so, it's great you're back on the scene. I like your books. I wanted to like this one.I saw Into The Fire on Ilona Andrews's blog, and on Charlaine Harris's blog. They mentioned its release, but they did not promote it. Maybe they are too busy to read it? I read it. Actually, I read most of it, and skimmed the final three or four chapters set in Belarus. Or was it Poland? It was about the sixth? seventh? whirlwind location change and I lost track of where we all were. Some locale with black quartz caves. The pacing was unusual for this series, frenetic from the opening scene to the last. Chase, fight, argue, repeat. Chaos, fire, electricity, deception, disguises, explosions. Broken windows and doors. The last two pages were calm, gentle, romantic and sweet. By that point, I felt as if I had earned them. The plot: Leila, a fun young American woman, recently turned into a vampire, pals around day after day with horny, ancient European male vampires, trying to find a way to disconnect from and rescue Vlad's whiny stepson (another ancient vampire), who is being held hostage by magical necromancers.Lelia's sister, Gretchen, for each book a reliably annoying character, remarkably becomes an even bigger headache. (Really Jeaniene? I choose indomitable Marty for eternity over Gretchen, all day long.)Vlad the Charismatic seems exhausted by his string of violent misfortunes over a horrible year. He shows up as the character we used to care about in the last two pages. Finally. My favorite chapters covered Leila's Cherokee heritage. I wish that had been the plot focus of the book. The sex scenes did not seem to interest the author too much. (They sure did not interest me). If the publisher is contractually requiring three scenes per book, well, checked that box.Speaking of the publisher: shame on you, Avon. This book needed an editor that cared more about helping Jeaniene write a great finale for this series than meeting a production deadline. She deserves (so much) better. So do the readers.

Great conclusion!
This was a nice conclusion for Vlad and Leila, although I think there was still a lot left unfinished. I think there could have been some closure given for Leila's sister and what happened to her (we don't see or hear from her again after what happens to her, which I think is weird), also her dad is not in this book at all. I would have thought there would have been one more interaction with him, or at least that we would see his reaction to the big news. Also after what happened in the end and person they end up taking back with them, I wondered how that worked out? Also unless I missed it, Leila's issue was never resolved either...? It was insinuated that she would not be getting rid of her legacy magic, but does that mean she is still connected to Mircea?I did really enjoy his book, and most definitely recommend you listen to this on audio, but I had hoped for a more final ending. I just have to assume maybe we'll get some of these answers in the following series, the next being Ian's.I recommend this book to fans of this series and absolutely will be rereading/listening to this series many more times.

Intricate plot
Well. All good things come to an end. The Night Prince series has truly been a hell of a ride!Leila is still tied to Mircea and Vlad will go to any length to keep her alive. It should have been an easier task, now that his nemesis, Szilagyi has been eliminated. It turns out that there is more going on, making the stakes even higher. There are new players who are taking advantage of the situation between Leila and Mircea, knowing that's she is Vlad's weakness. They resort into blackmailing him in doing something that would destroy him. This doesn't leave him with much choice if he wants to spare Leila. It's an intricate plot involving dark magic, necromancers and demons. Leila is surprised when her true heritage comes to light. It's baffling but answers a lot of her questions. She is one powerful lady! There are some brutal battles but there are some parts which had me in stitches. Vlad in disguise and the way he carries it through is something to behold. Wonderful! Ian brings so much delight to the story that I can't help but love him. I have really enjoyed this series and all the is well that ends well. There are indications that Ian is getting his own story but what about Maximus? He has contributed so much to the series, it will be nice to see him with a well deserved happy ending!

Could have been better
I pre-ordered this novel a year ago and have been waiting very expectantly for it. Sadly it has not lived up to my expectations. I read that the Jeaniene Frost was expecting to finish the Night Prince story in three books but had too far to go to make book three the last one. From the evidence of this book it feels like there wasn't quite enough story to make a full fourth book but she did her best to hit the word count. The story starts at a cracking pace, we are plunged directly into action set pieces and yet I feel the first part of the book was padded out. So much so that I was tempted to start skipping to try to find the meat of the story. I resisted and read it properly, my reward was some of the humour and sharp dialogue the series is known for, the price I paid was having one of my least favourite characters, Ian, join the team. After three books we think we know all about Leilas' history but in this book we find out where her power really comes from and it feels like JF is producing a rabbit out of a hat. There are some big surprises along the way regarding Leilas' family only for this thread to be shelved and tied off at the end by a throwaway sentence in the epilogue. The pace picks up just over halfway through the book, this is the bit that didn't fit into book three I believe. We get another couple of big action sequences where Leila gets to show her ability to save the day and JF sets up the new series she is writing and then all of a sudden the book wraps up. There are some serious loose ends that get a passing mention and a few that are just left hanging. The new series will pick up on some of those threads but the main Vlad and Leila story is at an end so why do I feel unsatisfied? Possibly because after all that padding earlier on the end is rather rushed, as though JF suddenly realised she had hit her word limit and had to stop.Perhaps this means that we are going to see a lot of this couple in the next series, if only to answer the question of what actually are they going to do about Mircea! You need to read this book if you have read the first three, but it's not one of her best. It won't stop me trying her next series as I know she can do a better job than this, even if I have to put up with Ian.

Feeling let down
After so looking forward to this, the last in the Night Prince series, I am feeling so let down. There were good things about it but also a lot of negatives and the one that really rankled was how the Night Prince series turned into the Leila saving the day over and over again series. The novel started off really well at a fast and furious pace, I was thoroughly enjoying it and bringing Ian into the story was refreshing as he was such a character in the Night Huntress series. There was more humour from both Ian and Vlad which had me laughing out loud and which had been sorely missing from Night Prince. So, as I said it started off really well and then just seemed padded out, I even got bored enough to skip through some parts. So, it seemed padded out and yet I felt cheated at the end as though not enough thought had gone into this part of the story. I felt we could have a little more on Mercia and Maximus at the end. Just so disappointed.

satisfying conclusion to this ongoing saga.
Been meaning to get around to this book like forever.I have had a copy on my kindle now for well over a year but wanted to reread the rest of the series before embarking on this final instalment.Well after finally getting around to rereading and then onto this all I can say was it was definitely worth the wait and I really did adore everything about this.Slightly sad to be leaving Vlad and Leila behind now but also ever so glad that the conclusion here to there epic love story and adventure together lived up to all my expectations, and they sure were huge folks.I believe I have mentioned that this is one of my top vampire romance series ever so was crossing my fingers and toes that this last book would be worthy and it was.So this was action-packed from page one it really was non-stop throughout. This was such an integral part to Vlad and Leila's onward journey as they undertake the massive feat of attempting to break the spell that is metaphorically holding an axe over both their heads.Vlad is using all his many wiles to extract them both from the predicament they currently find themselves in and he will do and sacrifice anything or anybody to save his beloved Leila she is his whole world. This book was equal parts amusing but also then heart-wrenching it really was a satisfying conclusion to this ongoing saga.As I said earlier I am sad to be saying goodbye to these two, but do also hope to catch future cameos of them again in future books set in this world. Also looking forward to getting to know Ian better, he does intrigue me and After the way, his hand evolved here should be an interesting ride. This was a fantastic series that I highly recommend a five-star experience all the way.

The final act
There's a forward to this book from the author explaining why it was delayed. She truly had an horrendous year so I for one really hope that she will find some peace and happiness.I held off reading this as I really didn't want the adventures of Vlad and Leila to end. I've finally finished it and I'm finding this review very difficult to write. There's no doubt that this series has been fun and exciting to read and at times the drama has been truly stomach turning so as this began I was prepared for all kinds of shocks. Well the biggest shock for me was sitting here and realising that the really big elephant in the room hasn't gone away! We know that at the end of the last book Bound by Flames Leila had her soul linked to evil necromancer Mircea so if he dies she dies. Quite a conundrum for Vlad to solve but knowing it's his own stepson who has cast the spell has really stirred him up. Vlad has always been uber protective because yes he is hundreds of years old and very traditional but at times here I just couldn't believe the way he acts.Lots of traveling around in this book and happily for this reader an explanation (finally ) as to just why Leila survived being hit by so many volts. I liked this thread as her heritage really helped to expand the story. However with the appearance of Ian who readers will recognise from the Night Huntress novels I just felt confused. Yes he's a vampire and yes he can perform magic that is against their laws but it was as if he had gone through a complete personality transplant! I've never liked him but here he acted like a tacky pantomime villain who plainly is being set up for his own redemption and book. Although I'm happy to admit the glamour he provided the big hunky guys with had me laughing out loud. So if you've ever wondered what Vlad would be like if he released his inner drag queen then here's the answer! So it's over and favourite characters reunite to take on the big bad but it's not Mircea who is the ultimate villain as new players step up and for me that ending felt too trite unfortunately. I've loved this couple and yet I'm left thinking what? Remember that elephant? Yes as this story ends not only do I feel a bit like smacking Vlad but come on nothing has really changed. Yes I know we see a pathetic needy side to Mircea and there's what I'd call a temporary solution so I can only hope that Ian will reconnect with Vlad and Leila . I strongly suspect with help from supernatural law enforcement Ian is going to be doing his best to prove that he's a worthy hero but I'm still not convinced but if anyone can make him heroic it's Ms Frost.
