An important book about a forgotten fighter
Post World War Two aviation moved quickly..as did the world's military situation. When the Soviets developed atomic weapons and deployed a long-range bomber, much earlier than expectyed, the newly independant U.S. Air Force needed a jet all-weather interceptor. The F-94 was the answer. Developed from the successful F-80, America's first operationally successful jet fighter and its off-spring, the T-33 jet trainer. It had a short operational life, retired by the end of the 50s. Today, it's often forgotten, overshadowed by the swept-wing F-86 Sabre and the later "Century Series" jets. America's other two seat interceptor, the Northrop F-89, had a longer service life and produced more variants.Today F-94 survivors are rare and this book fill the gap in ensuring future generations know about this important part of America's military history. The book details the type's combat history in Korea and its peace-time career with the Air defense Command and Air National Guard units. The extensive photos are first rate, including two nice color sections, are first rate.If you're interested in 1950's American military aviation, Isham and McLaren's book needs to be in your library.

Lockheed F-94 Starfire: photo Chronicle
Marty Isham and David McLaren provide an in-depth description of one of America's important early all-weather jet interceptors. Fully illustrated with photographs, charts and tables, the reader is given the full history of this great fighter. From early development as a run off from the F-80 shooting Star to a stand alone All weather Interceptor credited with destroying several communist aircraft in the night skies over North Korea, the story of this great fighter is revealed. Perhaps the highlight of this aircraft's military career is revealed when Isham and McLaren discuss the F-94 when it served numerous Air National Guard units throughout the United States. This book is a must for all aiviation historians and especially plastic model airplane builders who focus on early jet aircraft to have in their collection.

Artikel schnell geliefert. Danke.
