Good quality and user serviceable
TWO SEPARATE REVIEWS PROVIDED:I bought these based off of the reviews I found and I am not disappointed. Great quality control and manufacturing. As others have said, they are adjusted a bit tight from the factory and should be adjusted for the best results. I ended up taking them all the way apart to inspect and liberally grease, as the factory grease was applied adequately, but not to my liking (I like to over-grease). The dust caps were difficult to remove, but this is a positive, as the tight tolerances will reduce the likelihood of losing one of those caps on the road in the future. I did cosmetically damage one of the caps removing it, but this was 100% my doing. In viewing the pictures you can see it, but they were shipped in perfect condition. Overall very pleased now they are adjusted and buttery smooth. Time will tell on durability, but I expect these will go a very long time. It is difficult to find something of such good quality at this price point. Before finding these, I purchased a set of pedals for my other bike as a replacement. While I like them, I wish I had discovered this MKS model prior to that purchase. Highly recommended--you won't be disappointed.SECOND SEPARATE REVIEW: 09 OCT 23 Update. I mentioned in the initial review that I wish I had bought a set for my other bike. Well, I broke down and did...the Walmart plastic ones I bought on a whim because the others broke just aren't enjoyable. The second set arrived and while the first came in factory packaging, these did not. Not an issue for me. Very small cosmetic blemish on the aluminum body in the center. Again, not an issue. While the first set was overly tightened, the second set was actually ok and could have been used as shipped. Still, I took them apart to take out the underwhelming amount of grease of unknown quality. These are aluminum body with a steel spindle and of course steel bearings, cone, lock washers and nuts. The steel spindle on both sets was without any lubrication--bone dry. And the grease was minimal, as expected. No worries...we have the technology. These are super simple to take apart, service and put back together. 11 bearings on each side for a total of 22 per pedal to make 44 in total.I am posting photos to show the internals in the event that someone is intimidated by taking such an item apart once they order it. Yes, it can be daunting the first time, but if you are spending $33 or so on these, it may seem like a lot to pay double the price for what you can by off the rack in a local shop that is made of plastic and a throwaway item. Plus, I have seen disposable pedals listed at a higher price than these. I find that these are a killer deal because they are designed to be easily serviced and are of so much higher quality. Besides being picky with my gear, part of my reasoning for going to all of this work is for economy. I imagine that if I bought these pedals and rode them as they came, I would wear them out in a few years and then come back for another set. But then they would be $50-$60, for nothing is getting cheaper. A little bit of TLC up front on a very well made and well designed product goes a long way and in the short and long term will bring more enjoyment through better performance and a lasting product...(as long as my bikes don't get stolen!). I am not compensated for my reviews and my only gripe is the lack of grease. And yes, I scratched the dust caps again as I took them off...no fault of the manufacturer or shipper.*Photos of the pedals mounted on a bicycle are the set from my first review. The other pictures are from my most recent purchase and servicing this evening. The red grease was provided by me and did not ship with the product.

Bought these for my new touring bike as the pedals were so well reviewed and recommended. The quality is apparent right from the box. The bearings did not need adjustment, unlike other pedals I've bought recently. They turn very smoothly. I've done 100km so far, paired with a set of toe clips. These pedals are designed with servicing and adjustment in mind, so I'm not worried. Other reviewers said that once you've tried quality pedals, you wont go back. They're probably right. I'll be buying MKS pedals from now on.One thing to be aware of is that these pedals are designed with a wide body to give more foot positions, comfort and footwear choices while touring. This wide body will cause the pedal to ground on sharp turns. There are other MKS Sylvan pedals that are practically identical, but without the wide body, if your riding style/discipline includes a lot of sharp turns.
