Hillside 3 Tier Cake Pan includes 4 Inch x 1.25 Inch Cake Pan, 7 Inch x 1.25 Inch Cake Pan and a 10 Inch x 1.25 Inch Cake Pan Review: Fun and easy - I am a novice when it comes to cakes. I love to bake but they never turn out right. I wanted to do a tiered cake for my daughter's birthday but given my track record I really didn't want to play around with trying to stack cakes. I figured since I had to buy cake pans for the project anyway I might as well try an already tiered pan. I followed the directions in some of the other reviews, using 2 boxes of cake mix and baking at 350 degrees for 1 hour 15 minutes. I then allowed it to cool in the pan for 20 minutes before turning it out on to a plate and allowing it to cool another 3 hours before frosting (using two cans of frosting). I really like this pan and I will be using it again and again. A note about the size because it's hard to tell from the description - this is not a large wedding cake sized cake but it is not tiny cupcake either. It is a regular family sized cake, at least as big as you'd buy in a regular bakery or grocery store. It uses two boxes of cake mix (or two regular recipes worth). Judge based on that. For my family of 4 I would normally only use one box so to me this is a very large cake. The base fits perfectly on a regular large sized dinner plate. It is a perfect for a birthday cake. It is not so tall that there are issues with stability. Some tips for other cake newbies: Line the flat portions with parchment paper, then grease and flour the entire pan to prevent sticking. Two boxes of mix will make slightly more than a full pan so cut off the bottom of the cake with a bread knife to have a flat surface. Use a flat cake plate or other flat surface if possible, I used a regular dinner plate and the edges of my cake sloped up because of the edge of the plate. I corrected that by putting extra frosting into the dip. Do a crumb coat of frosting first - this is like a coat of primer before painting. It traps all the crumbs so they don't get in your final layer of frosting. Fill in any gaps or imperfections with frosting and use a wet finger to smooth out any lumps. Finally, decorations can be done by putting extra frosting in a large ziploc bag with the tip cut off. I didn't have any metal pastry tips so I didn't use one. Review: Great pan in need of a better baker - I bought this to make a cake for my daughters 6th birthday. I decided to do a test run about a week prior and I'm sure glad I did. The pan does not come with directions, but after reading other reviews I used 2 boxes of cake mix on 350° for 1 hour 15 mins and it came out perfect (although I'm sure oven times may vary). Don't forget to grease the pan otherwise this sucker isn't coming out in one piece! When the cake is done you will have to trim off the excess. I think I didn't let it cool long enough before frosting (eager 5 year old asking me if it's time to decorate every 2 mins) because when we applied it, I couldn't get to smooth to save my life! Oh well, it was still delicious and would have been the perfect size for her birthday party (ended up going with store bought). Like others have said, it's not wedding cake sized but it isn't a personal size either. It does take about a box and a half of batter so you experienced bakers can probably guesstimate how many it will feed. Overall, I'm happy with my purchase, my daughter had fun baking a Christmas cake and I know not to quit my day job.

Great pan in need of a better baker

Love this item, but read this before baking!
I have been searching for this pan for atleast ten years. I borrowed this pan from my cake decorating instructor to make a wedding cake for my uncle years ago, and was ecstatic when I found it on Amazon, and at such a great price! Do make sure you pay attention to the dimensions though, don't expect a full size wedding cake from this pan. I ended up making two cakes and cutting each layer individually, frosting them all together to make a bigger cake, but it was atleast much easier with this pan! My big complaint, as other review writers have said, is that this company sends JUST this pan in the box... No instructions, no contact information. As I talked to the company that manufactures this pan, I learned that this is a mistake on Amazon's part. Upon calling I was told by their customer service department that this pan requires 1 1/2 batches of batter (1 1/2 cake mixes) and takes approx. 1 hour and 15 minutes to bake at 350 degrees. Also, make sure you grease the pan VERY well, since there is no way for you to loosen the smaller layers without ruining the cake. But other than that, this product is great and probably one of the best purchases I have ever made! My parent's cake will look FANTASTIC at their 30th Anniversary party next week!

Not worth the money
I purchased this for my sister who love baking cakes, I couldn't believe how small it was. It's a little smaller than a round 2 tier cake. It's perfect it you only want to serve about five people.

Read dimensions before buying
Just received this product and much to my surprise it is alot smaller than it looks. I should've read the description better. Im sure I will find a use for this in the future, but it will not serve the purpose I initially bought it for.

Perfect cake!
I read the reviews for this before purchasing and was worried it wouldn't turn out. However, I also baked it at 350 for 75 mins and it came out perfect. I used 2 boxes of cake mix and had to cut the bottom even with the pan using a bread knife, but if anything that just allowed me to taste the cake before serving. I baked this for my 11 year old daughters birthday party and all the girls were amazed at how I made such a cool cake. :) Mommy points. I really had no problems. I greased and floured it. Let it cool for about 30-45 mins in the fridge. It popped right out. Easiest cake I've ever made.

so this was great. Buzz Lightyear cake for the kid - it ...
I don't have the patience to do 3 separate layers, so this was great. Buzz Lightyear cake for the kid - it was the perfect size for my family of 4. I was worried that the cake would not have enough frosting to make it moist, since there is no frosting between the layers. I made a thick frosting with heavy whipping cream and instant pudding mix so, I am happy to report, the cake was not dry. In the future, though, i might cut off the top layer of cake and frost just under that one. I like frosting! Also, I would put in the whole 2 boxes of cake mix so that the cake bakes over the top - then I could cut the bottom flat. Instead, I followed the directions and only used 1 1/2 boxes (6 cups). It was a bit higher in the middle than on the sides, and I couldn't easily fix the problem...

Works like a charm!
My 9 and 11 year old girls, fans of the Cake Boss, lobbied hard to get a "Girl Gourmet" cake maker for Christmas - as best I could tell, an overpriced glorified Easy Bake Oven with microwaveable cakes that must taste gross, along with mix your own fondant. So instead, I bit the bullet, and though being creativity impaired, got them some fondant and tools . I wanted to get a "fancy" pan for a 3 tiered cake, but didn't want to break the bank, or make huge wedding sized cakes every time they wanted to decorate. I was a little worried about how this "all in one" 3 tiered cake pan would work, but it was great. For whatever reason, it didn't come with instructions - the box from Amazon was beat up and appeared it had been opened then resealed, so perhaps something happened during shipping. But I called the company, and the lovely woman who answered gave me batter and baking directions verbally as well as faxing me a copy, and the reminder to grease the cake pan well. The girls were thrilled when I showed them the things I had gotten and we made the cake the day before Christmas Eve, and I was even more thrilled when it came out of the pan, baked to perfection, with no difficulty at all. On Christmas Eve we learned the basics of fondant together, decorated a very colorful cake, and welcomed Jesus' birthday with their very own fondant decorated 3 tiered cake on Christmas day. An adventure to remember. And having the pan work well was the start of it ...
