Okay so had this about 6 months and I guess it does an alright job at sharpening blades....The tungsten carbide blade (1st stage) does a good job of sharpening a dull blade although it leaves a very rough, jagged edge. Its shard but you can feel the coarseness or the blade edge.The ceramic rods (2nd stage) used to hone the rough blade fro the 1st stage of sharpening just never did anything. brand new out of the box it smoothed over the jagged edges and yes it left my knifes sharper than they were before sharpening (not as sharp as I would have liked though) but after 6 months the ceramic rods are useless, I do not use them as they dull rather than hone the blades now.I m only giving this 3 stars because of its price point BUT I would prefer to sharpen my blades on a stone from my garden than use this knife sharpener.
