The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2

Misunderstood by audiences and reviled by critics at the time of its original theatrical release in 1986, Tobe Hooper's "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2" has grown in stature over the years. While the original is the better and more important film of the two, the sequel is actually the one I tend to watch the most. The black comedy and gore are ramped up to the nth degree in this film which caught people off guard back in 1986 as they were expecting more of the minimalistic and bloodless approach of the original film which made it so potent. TCM2 is completely off the rails and one of the wildest rides in horror movie history.TCM2 was released on bare bones DVD back in 2000 but MGM released a special edition DVD edition dubbed The Gruesome Edition in 2006 which did the film's legacy justice. That same edition and HD master was used for the film's bluray release in 2012.For Scream Factory's 2 disc collector's bluray release, they have released what in my eyes is the definitive release of the film. All of the extras from MGM's bluray including the two commentary tracks, the feature length making of documentary, deleted scenes and the theatrical trailer were ported over. New to this collector's edition is a third commentary track, 30 minutes of interview outtakes with the late & great screenwriter L.M. Kit Carson and sadly deceased actor Lou Perryman, still galleries, TV spots, 43 minutes of behind the scenes footage, a special effects featurette called House of Pain, interviews with the actors who played the two yuppies from the beginning of the film, the editor Alain Jakubowicz and stuntman Bob Elmore. Sean Clark also contributes a new episode of his Horror's Hallowed Grounds.Not content to stop there, on disc one you also get a brand new 2K scan from the film's interpositive and on disc two for purists they included the MGM transfer which was approved by the director of photography. How does the new 2K transfer compare? It in my opinion blows the 2012 transfer away! Colors are greatly improved, the print damage seen intermittently in the MGM transfer is gone, fine detail is improved, skin tones look more natural and not as hot and the black crush seen particularly in the 3rd act from the old transfer is gone as well. While I have been critical of some of Scream Factory's past HD transfer attempts for films such as "Mad Max" & "Escape from New York", I can safely say that their new 2K transfer of TCM2 does not disappoint and looks positively amazing.I should mention that the Tobe Hooper early short films included on the region B Arrow Video bluray release which also used the old MGM transfer aren't included in this release. But truly they aren't missed in my eyes and the ample amount of film specific extra content with Scream Factory's release more than make up for their omission.While I usually frown on having to double and in some cases triple dipping my favorite films, it is more than worth it in this case. The new 2K transfer looks positively stunning and the new extras alongside the previous extras make this release truly definitive. Dog will hunt!!

Watching this movie felt like an eternity. Several times I caught myself thinking of something else and could feel my eyes starting to glaze over. I came in expecting a wild ride filled with violence and crazy people, and that's what this is, but without any entertainment.The long stretches of screaming hicks were boring and really started to get on my nerves after a while. The acting was fine, I never felt pulled out of the film, it's just that the Sawyer family is really irritating to listen to for long periods of time. It felt like the hectic nightmare of the dinner sequence from the first film got stretched into forty minutes, with a bare sprinkling of crazy Dennis Hopper on top.All the cool things I had heard about this movie (dual wielding chainsaws, the camp sensibilities, the ramped up gore) felt downplayed. It doesn't take a lot to entertain me, but I couldn't even like this one for it's badness. It is just so boring and grating that I cannot recommend it.

This is the first time I saw this and I thought it was absolutely wacky and funny (maybe a little goofy) but maybe Tobe Hooper wanted it that way. They knew what direction they were going. There are 2 favorite scenes was when Leatherface was playing with those two kids that was driving in the beginning. The second one was when Leatherface was into Vanita "Stretch" Brock putting that chainsaw on her leg and up to...well you have to watch it to see. Caroline Williams was absolutely gorgeous and awesome role. Dennis Hooper (R.I.P.) we horror fans will always remember his great role in this film. The most iconic horror actor Bill Moseley was terrific as Chop-Top Sawyer. I recommend it to all Texas Chainsaw Massacre fans out there.

When I was young, I was starting to get into horror films which I began with older horror films. Mostly stuff from the 70s & 80s. One of the films I was excited to see was The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I pictured seeing people being hacked up, sliced up and spilt down the middle "Yeah I was a violent kid back than, haha!" However after I saw original I was disappointed. Hardly any gore, the story felt flat and had a bunch of unlikeable characters.I than tried the remake but it didn't have a lot of chainsaw death, mostly traps and people making stupid choices. After that I avoid the TCM sequels for years till I searched for every good horror film I could find and since I have gotten older I can appreciate films that I didn't like before. Anyway onto the review.Two drunk friends are driving recklessly while shooting at road signs and playing chicken with oncoming traffic. They phone a radio station and annoy it's host Vanita "Stretch" Brock. Later on that night the two friends become the next victims of the Sawyer Family. The next morning Lieutenant Boude or as everybody else calls him "Lefty" shows up at the crime scene and has been after the Sawyer Family for 13 years after the lose of his uncle and brother who were both murder victims.Stretch had the phone call recorded and tries to get Lefty to listen to it but turns her down. However after unable to find any leads, Lefty buys 3 chainsaws he returns to radio station and asks Stretch to play it to see if anyone can help the police find the killers. After playing the tape Stretch is visited by Top Chop who creeps her out than Leatherface shows up and tries to kill her, however Leatherface becomes attracted to Stretch. When L.G. returns with coffee he is beaten nearly to death by Top Chop which he and Leatherface take him.Stretch goes after them and following her is Lefty. When she realizes who's following her she goes to talk to him but falls through a hidden panel and into the Sawyer family hideout. Lefty takes his 3 chainsaws and goes crazy while destroying "The Devil's Playground" Stretch is captured by the Sawyer family and is about to be surfed for dinner when Lefty comes in to safe her while having a chainsaw dual with Leatherface.If this film didn't have it's moments like the chainsaw dual and it's funny parts I might have not liked this film. For what it is I can enjoy it. I do however wish their was one scene that I wish they kept which was Leatherface and Top Chop attacking a bunch of drunken football fans, giving me more gore. Overall it was a silly yet fun film to watch.

This is very wierd film when compared to the original,but still enjoyable if in a in ott slapstick way,and theres much more constant screaming,basically a radio station gets invaded by leatherface and family,bill mosely with a metal plate on his head,dennis hopper as a revengeful sheriff etc.Good extras,comes with a book and a nice collectors edition numbered card.

The item came really fast, in perfect condition.Everything is as described. The story is great - real classic exploitation from 80's,picture quality is perfect.100 % entertainment.The price is cheap, but that's hard-to-find title so, don't hesitate - BUY IT NOW!

I found the sequel better than the not-so-violent original - its was mostly atmospheric after all.But the sequel I enjoyed for its over violence and at times I have to say its a comedy horror.Excellent
