Works great
Easy install, easy to follow instructions. Doesn't fall off easy, with many cycles of open and close.

This is great!
I have a gate at the front of my property and it is a Godsend - it alerts me when someone is coming in my gate. Perfect! Easily added to my Ring family of products. Love it.

Works well, but tamper switch and mounts are weak
As others said, the range is good and it is good that the sensor is tolerant of a wide gap (~1 inch) between sensor and magnet. However, the tamper switch on the bottom can be flaky (the sensor incorrectly reports it has been tampered after gate is slammed close). Also, while it is nice that the mounting base for the sensor and magnet are removable, this is really a weakness. The mounting tabs that hold the sensor and magnet to their bases are thin and weak. On the first day after I installed this on my side gate my gardener knocked the magnet off its mount by slamming the gate. Also, I’m concerned how long the brown plastic case will last in hot California summers.UPDATE 2/2024: While the physical mounts are not robust, these sensors have proven to be reliable. I have 3 of these on outdoor gates and they are working reliably. The provided double-sided tape is strong and working well so far (must be mounted to a perfectly flat surface such as metal frame). One recurring issue is that the magnets easily slip off their mounts from normal gate use. The fix: a zip tie. A zip tie can be run through the slot on the mount and wrapped around the magnet to keep it secure.

Ring contact
This ring contact is fantastic and help you know what is going on around at every minute

It needs a reset every once in a while.
It stopped working after six months. I thought the sensor was defective, but it only needed a reset. We are back in business!

Works with Home Assistant
I have been looking for a sensor to monitor my back gate and most Zwave contact sensors only have a max operating temperature of 104 Degrees F. I live in Texas and this would not work for my area. Bought this one and it was super simple to connect to Home Assistant. Lightning fast notifications when the gate opens or closes. If i need another outdoor contact sensor I will be going with this one.

Junk design. Flimsy, pops right off mounting bracket
Was super excited that they released these sensors so we could monitor our gate. Sadly, the design is incredibly frustrating and faulty. The biggest offender is that the large sensor can bump off of the mounting bracket incredibly easily. With just the slightest nudge of the body, or bump from a gate, the sensor pops right off the bracket and lands on the ground. Oh and you will get a handy “device tampered with“ alert to boot. I was truly surprised at how easy it slides off of the mounting bracket, to the point where I removed the whole thing and try to see if I was attaching it incorrectly, but nope. That’s just the way it’s designed. Slides right off with minimal amount of force. Very “secure”.Other issues are minor inconveniences in comparison, but they are still inconvenient all the same. The sensors are surprisingly bulky. In fact, it was rather difficult to find a good place to mount them, because I have old wood gates, the structures are a little uneven, so it was tricky finding a spot to attach both sides of the sensor. The smaller thinner part of the sensor attaches at a weird angle. I wish I could mount it based on the broadside, not the thin side. You basically have about a quarter inch of surface area attaching to the gate, while the rest of the sensors sticks out about an inch off of the gate. Basically making it a little appendage sticking off, a wide-open target for someone to bump into it and break it off.Overall, I was fairly surprised and disappointed at the problematic design of these sensors, especially considering how great rings other products are. I think Ring needs to go back to the drawing board on the mounting situation for these sensors In the meantime I’m going to consider sending them back and replacing them with the old-school sensors instead.

Works well as a garage sensor, even in coldest of Canadian winters!
We installed this to monitor our garage overhead door, as seen in the photo (which may be hard to understand). The smaller half of the sensor, on the left, is rotated 1/4 turn so it would fit, and is attached to the door. The part on the right is on the frame. The smaller white contact sensors aren’t rated for cold winter temperatures, so we bought this one. This configuration has been working perfectly so far (for 9 weeks and counting) and it works WAY better than our old alarm system sensor which used an accelerometer and was slow or didn’t recognize when garage opened/closed at all.It has been below -30C (-22F) for days and was down to -38C (-36F) overnight these past few days. About as cold as it can get! I was concerned this sensor may fail because of the temperature rating. This sensor isn’t directly outside but it must be -18C (0F) inside our garage. The sensor has been working A-OK, even when the overhead door is open and the sensor is more exposed to the frigid cold.As a result, I would fully recommend this for cold climates, if used like we are doing (in a garage for an overhead door). If using the sensor strictly outdoors, fully exposed, like in a gate or shed in the winter, I might be more wary. It is technically only rated down to -20C (-4F).For climates that are warmer year-round, I feel this sensor would be a terrific purchase.-----Other notes:- For use on a garage door, make sure all snow is cleared under the door. With just a bit of caked snow under the garage door, the sensor wouldn’t register as closed.- Keep in mind this sensor is larger than the white indoor ones. If you are using in a narrow space you may want to measure carefully first.- We also found the tamper sensor a bit finicky. Once the baseplate behind the large half of the sensor was attached, and we slid the unit back together again, it would still register tampered. We hadn't screwed the baseplate on overly tight, but we had to loosen it until a delicate threshold where the sensor would register as being properly assembled again. It sounds like others have had similar problems with the assembly of this product.

Very good sensor, mounting brackets could be more robust.
The contact sensor is especially big compared to indoor contact sensors that I have used previously, but I love that they use AA batteries. The mounting mechanism is kinda awful though. The sensors slide in to the brackets upon these very small rails/clips, and the sensor can become dislodged when slamming the gate. To remedy this I added retaining screws next to the sensor to prevent it sliding out (see my photos)
