Fantastic Four-Where the Marvel Universe started!
This is the 2nd volume omnibus of the Lee & Kirby run. This collection not only contain popular Marvel stories but also the introductions of mainstay Marvel characters like The Silver Surfer, Galactus, The Inhumans, and Black Panther! The downside to this omnibus is that it can be dense...a little wordy but overall, not a hard read. My biggest problems were the Human Torch/Crystal "love" story and how the Invisible Woman was written. The Human Torch/Crystal subplot was...not convincing. Both characters were obsessed with seeing each other again after The Inhuman city was incased in a big dome...after hardly knowing one another for less than a day, lol. That love story was off.The other problem was Invisible Woman...specially the way she was written. Most throughout the book, Mr. Fantastic would talk harsh to her. She would be the damsel in distress or act like one. From someone who has read her in modern FF books, this is weird. The good...there's quite a lot. The FF are team of explorers. So you see them go to different planets or dimensions. I loved how The Thing was written, such a fun character. You also have the origins of Dr. Doom & the Richards wedding. The best parts of the book were introductions of Marvel mainstays. The Galactus trilogy introduces the Silver Surfer & Galactus. In humans saga, were introduced to Black Bolt and his Inhuman kingdom. Lastly, the intro/origin of Black Panther....comics first black superhero!Overall, I enjoyed this book! I would get volume 3 but it's gotten hard to find for a reasonable price(with Marvel getting the movie rights back to F4 & X-Men, there will most likely be a reprint). If you're a FF fan, I highly recommend picking this up. Though, if you're trying to get into the F4, I would hold off on it. I would recommend Hickman' F4 run first.

One of Kirby's greatest achievements
This book is flawless, in every manner I could think of. I could talk about the physical aspects of the book, but you can read about that stuff elsewhere. I'll just talk about the content.Kirby's Fantastic Four is regularly cited as being one of the greatest comics ever made, and this book should convince most people of that. The stories at the beginning of the book are a little lackluster, but somewhere around the first appearance of the Frightful Four, things really kick into high gear, and don't let up for the rest of the book. The stories are only hampered by the inking, the first inker in the book is Chic Stone, and while Stone is capable, he isn't Kirby's greatest inker. Something I found a little funny is Stone makes some of Kirby's women look like Roy Lichenstein paintings. After Stone left, he was replaced by Vince Colletta, one of the most notorious Kirby inkers. His issues are inked in a abysmal fashion, but after the darkest night, the brightest day followed, and Joe Sinnott became the inker of Fantastic Four. Sinnott's inks are perfect, and he is probably one of the three best Kirby inkers (the others being Wally Wood and Mike Royer)Inking aside, the stories are incredible. Included are the issues of Fantastic Four generally considered to be the best, including the Galactus Saga and "This Man, This Monster!". I can't recommend this book enough, and it is much cheaper than buying the masterwork collections that collect the issues in this omnibus.

a very nice book, indeed
i learned reading with the french editions of marvel comics, fantask to name it in which i discovered fantastic four, silver silver surfer and spiderman. it only lasted 7 issues, thanks to the french censorship. the number 8 was full of promises: the inuhumas are among us !!! but the book never came out...but the seed was planted, i grew up collecting comics no matter from wich country they came from. teachers sayed i would finish in jail at best. i did not, i opened an us comics books in paris in wich we sold all the marvel book from the silver age, exept for fantastic for n°1. often with my associate we dreamed of nice books"à la française", but in theses times of great obscurities, all what we got was cheap reprints with ugly color job. today my dreams comes true with magnificent books. imagine the finest aera of ff in a great book with a dust jacket, how could a comic lover live without? i bought also the dardevil miller omnibus and the new xmen. call it a good start for collecting

Fantastic omnibus
The marvel omnibus is by far "THE" best collected editions in town. Dc tries to do an omnibus book too but theirs are not as good as Marvel's. For example they don't give you that much quantity in their volumes. I'm not saying that DC's collections are bad check the absolute editions for this but is in my opinion that Marvel gives you more for your money. For example in this volume not only do they give you years worth of Stan's and jack's classic run but they also throw in the annuals and not brand ECHh and the color in this book is remastered. I've seen reviews where they express that the pages fall off but I owned 8 of this volumes and it doesn't seen the case. The marvel omnibus is a great way to rediscover old school comic books. Thanks to the color remastered this comics looked amazing, it let's you appreciate the artwork ten times better than its original released. These omnibus books also gives you the fun of collecting again as these books have a limited run and their hard to find status after they're sold out makes them double their price as fast as quicksilver changes from villain to hero to villain to hero.

A great slice of 1960s pop culture
This is a remarkable volume of work comprising one of the most clearly evolving periods of comic books from a churn out product as quickly as possible to the medium that has existed for the last few decades where it is generally regarded as one that contains genuine artist merit and consideration. Though this can be a fun nostalgia romp for those who can remember reading these comics at the time they were published, this worked primarily for me as a history book of the art form in the mid 1960s. The inclusion of prose articles give a good idea to the way marvel worked in this era. The inclusion of all the letters pages gave me a unique insight into the thinking if the readership. Their reactions to the story lines and content and structure were insightful. There are clear feelings to both the social and political climate of the era that influenced their interpretation of the comics. It seemed apparent to me that the views expressed in the letters pages had an effect on subsequent issues of the fantastic four whether that was consciously done or otherwise. To judge them by subsequent comics published over the 50 years between when they were produced and now would be unfair. Given the circumstances and period when they were created many of the issues stand up remarkably well. There are more than enough reviews of all the storylines around both on the web and elsewhere without pitching in an issue by issue review from me.I strongly recommend this book to anyone interested in the medium and how it evolved. I was tempted to give this book a 5 star rating but have resolved to save those for truly exceptional pieces of work as I will similarly only give a single star to a review if I can justifiably argue it is awful. I hope this review helps and would appreciate any feedback as this is the first review I have posted on amazon

Christmas Present 2013
This was at the top of my Christmas list when I knew this second volume of the Fantastic Four was being re-issued. I couldn't afford it the first time and then people started asking silly money for it. Now I have my copy and it is superb. This includes the brilliant Inhumans saga and is one of the best in the whole history of comics. Also appearing for the first time is the Silver Surfer and the Black Panther is also highlighted. Art by Jack Kirby - what more could you want? A must-have for any serious comic fan of yesteryear.

Childhood Revisited.
This is a splendidly bound retrospective of the Fantastic Four, but for whom it is this substantial book intended? It is very expensive and of the content dates back over 40 years. It seems likely this is for readers of those comics back in the 1960s who like this reviewer are now middle aged. Is it worth the money and is it a good buy?Looking first at practical matters, it is well put together, contains more than 800 pages and the reproduction of the original comics is excellent. The colours are vibrant and the whole package is high quality. Though bulky it is readable.Pros and cons:Pros:1. A wonderful exercise in nostalgia, with the original stories printed in full complete with covers and letters pages. This reviewer was twelve years old again.2.Contains some of the seminal Fantastic Four stories, the Galactus trilogy the Inhumans the Black Panther and of course more than one helping of Dr Doom.3.Some superb Jack Kirby artwork, particularly when Joe Sinnott is the Inker.Cons:1.These stories are from the 1960s and it shows.2.It is surprising how the standard of inking varies, some of the earlier stories particularly where inked by Vince Colletta look surprisingly shoddy, and the contrast between that and the later stories is noticeable.3.The dialogue is very cheesy, but perhaps this reviewer is too critical and of course is no longer a child,4.The standard of scripting does vary. However there is no doubt that when one reaches the Inhumans saga, through Galactus, and "This Man This Monster"a high point is reached, the stories before and after are not quite to the same standard .5.Looking back, though the stories were inventive, all too often the super villain was defeated with some mystery weapon at the last momentSo is it worth your money ? The short answer is yes this reviewer has thoroughly enjoyed revisiting his childhood and anyone purchasing from the same era will not be disappointed . However, if you're looking to buy a graphic novel with today's standard of scripting and realism approach with caution.

A great read
First I bought volume 1 (and I'd never read FF before) and liked it so much I bought volume 2. Now I reckon I'll end up with volumes 3 & 4 as well. Volume 2 is definitely a step up in story quality which makes sense. I'm up to "The Coming of Galactus" now and so far I feel that every story has been a worthwhile read. While volume 1 had mostly standalone stories, the stories in this book are more interconnected and complex. Before buying the 2 FF Ominibuses I hadn't read much Marvel at all but now I'm afraid I'm hooked, this is definitely worth it. I can wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone who enjoys comics!
