Arrived in great condition
Since this is a Christmas gift, I am glad that it arrived in great condition. My mother and I have read all of Turow's books and have thoroughly enjoyed them and we are both looking forward to this one.

Mediocre
Cass Gianis has been released from prison after serving twenty-five years for murdering his girlfriend, a crime to which he has confessed. His twin brother Paul, a respected State Senator and lawyer, is running for mayor. The rich and powerful brother of the murdered girl, in a bid to derail Paul`s campaign, begins running ads suggesting he is somehow implicated in the murder, perhaps even guilty, as well.Paul sues him for slander. Traces of the perpetrator`s blood had been found at the scene, and as part of his defence, the brother attempts to have Paul`s DNA matched to the blood, a procedure unavailable twenty-five years ago, to prove he was there. Since the DNA of identical twins is the same, ninety-nine percent of the time, and since Paul`s twin has confessed to the crime, there is almost certainly to be a match. While this does not prove that Paul has committed the crime it will suggest there is a fifty-fifty chance that he did. If he withdraws his suit the voters will think he has something to hide. Either way he`s screwed, an interesting if somewhat flawed premise. So, what to do to escape this dilemma? Unfortunately Turow was apparently stymied as well, because from here on the plot goes downhill, leading to a confusing and ridiculous conclusion. Along the way we learn more than we care to about forensic testing, courtroom maneuverings, and gay relationships. (Don`t ask how that one got in there.)I`ve always been a fan of Turow`s , having read all his books and finding them to be entertaining and realistic. Not this time. What further amazes me is the laudatory reviews newspapers give these books, it`s like bestselling and popular writers are immune from criticism.Forget the reviews, this one is at best, mediocre.
