Classic Game
Dry nice set. The only issue is sometimes it’s hard to tell the colors apart… for me anyway.

High Quality
Incredible work here. The only complaints that I have are the felt that holds the pieces sheds a lot making cleaning the pieces a constant thing, and that the pieces didn't come with pads on the bottoms, but I can go and get my own from home depot. Otherwise exactly what I expect when buying a chess set, Great work!

A Wonderful Blend of "Quality Tabletop Chess Set" and "Travel Chess Set."
I own two chess sets (not counting the electronic versions I have on computer, phone, etc). One is a very nice marble and onyx set I received as a gift from a family member who visited Central America. Gorgeous, heavy, and, unfortunately, prone to being treated as a "toy" by our pets. After having the second piece chipped when it hit the floor, I decided to put it away for safekeeping.I also own a cheap, magnetic board. It to expose the piece storage in the underside, and exposes the full board on the top side. The pieces are plastic, with small magnets, and the top board is sheetmetal. It works... but it's not "pretty."So... I saw this, and I immediately thought it would be worth my time to check it out. The board is very attractive... I give a single ding on "craftsmanship" because I'd really like it if it were essentially "seamless" when unfolded, but there are tiny mismatches between the two halfs when open. Apart from that minor quibble, it's really very, very nice looking, though. The pieces are wooden, as is the board proper. Each piece has a magnet inside, and felt on the base. The strength of the magnetic attraction is not tremendously great... the pieces slide to and fro easily on the board surface, without damaging the finish, but have just enough retention force for the pieces to not be dumped if the board is gently tipped perpendicular to the ground. It's a delicate balancing act, and I think they got it just right... at least, they did on the copy I received. On the underside of the board are two compartments with velvet-finish foam, each with cavities for a full set of parts, each exactly shaped to the parts... no rectangular compartments here, and no "chattering" when you shake the closed board with pieces stored inside. It's really a VERY nice set, and I'm very pleased. It's attractive enough to leave out full-time. And yet, entirely portable. And, the cats likely won't be tossing pieces onto the ground, but even if they do manage to do so, the lighter pieces (made from turned hardwood rather than marble and onyx) will undoubtedly survive just fine.Any drawbacks? Well, just a few of small ones.1) If the two halfs were even more "seamless" than they are, I'd be thrilled. It's CLOSE, but not "perfect."2) It would be nice if there were feet on the underside, opposite the handle (when closed). These would have to inset into the opposite half when closed, of course, but this could easily be done, and would allow it to stand upright when closed.3) When closed, it is held that way by magnets inset into the wood... and by your hand holding the carrying handle element, of course. This is a case where a physical latch seems like it would be in order. Just a single... something simple... would be sufficient. But I generally don't like relying ONLY on magnets. (Note, however, the pieces are held snugly in their insert cavities, so even if it does fall open, the pieces won't fall out.)and finally4) Yes, most of us know how to play chess. I certainly do. But it wouldn't be a BAD thing to include a one or two page "introduction to chess" insert. The set comes with NO documentation of any kind, and something like this, while wasted on many of us, would potentially be a "plus" for people who are less familiar with the game.In general, I'm VERY pleased with this set and intend to put it out on display as soon as I am finished writing this review... in the spot left vacant by my (at least temporarily retired) marble and onyx set.

Great magnet strength
This chess set is easy to play. The magnet strength is strong enough to keep the pieces anchored to the board but loose enough that the pieces easily are picked up without disturbing the rest of the pieces. The pieces have good detail and look and feel nice and easily store to make this a compact set.
