My heart is full
I was never a Valerie fan.Main reason being she married my first love, Eddie VanHalen. lol! Funny but a true story. I fell in love with his picture on the back of the Women and children first album (I was 9 years old) and from then on he was my man. As an adult I never paid attention to Valerie's career. Until she showed up on Kid's Baking Championship and I thought, " She seems like such a nice person. " From what one can tell by watching Kid's Baking Championship.I debated about reading this. The only reason I decided to was my sister was going to. Then while waiting for my name to reach the top of the library’s waitlist, I read an extract taken from this book in People magazine that left me breathless and nearly brought me to tears. I knew reading it was the right decision. Valerie loved Eddie. Truly loved him, so very much and he loved her in return. "Soulmates" as she says in the book. She speaks of the end of Eddie's life. How they ( her and their son,Wolfgang) were there and showered him with love and him them, right up till the end and beyond. Eddie's last words to them and them to him were, " I love you." I can relate to all this having gone through it with my Dad. It's something to cherish. Which after reading on they do and always will. ( Wolfie even writing a song and putting together a video to honor his Dad.) This book made me love her for loving him. I was so glad he had that in his life. Glad she had it hers. (Everyone should.) I'm sure I' m not going to get those intimate details in his life story that someone else has written. This is Valerie's story. It was deep and heartfelt. From her soul and I felt it. I felt emotional while reading. My heart was full as were my eyes, with tears. The book wasn't about just that, of course. It was about her learning to love herself for who she was in the hear and now. As she was then and is now at the present time. Without comparing herself to the number on the scale. Being grateful , happy and counting her blessings. There were also recipes scattered throughout. All and all it was good, true to life (relatable), raw with emotion and extremely touching. Keep up the good work,Valerie. Your son isn't the only rockstar in the family.

Wisdom, Insight, Recipes, and Love
My favorite line in this book is found on page 181, where a Proverb is recounted that said with listening comes wisdom and with speaking, repentance (paraphrased). I really had no idea where this book would take me but found it to be a journey I'd take again, many times over. It is obvious Valerie has done a lot of listening because her wisdom is exactly what this world needs. Simply put, do things out of and based in love. The book has many wonderful and heartfelt stories and is penned artfully and with care. If you're looking for a great read that so often has you yearning for more...this is the book for you. A must read, feel-good (about yourself) book that was very well done!

Amazing woman
I just love Valerie! I remember watching her in “One Day at a Time” when I was a child. The show helped me feel like it was okay to be the child of divorced parents. It just wasn’t that common back then. I would marvel about how pretty and sweet her character was and it was clear that she allowed herself to shine through in her acting. In recent years, I bought her cookbook. My husband finds the spaghetti and meatballs to die for. It’s his favorite meal ever. In this memoir, we learn where Valerie is currently in her life. She is a great example to women everywhere. Although I will never be a great cook like she is, there’s so much to take from this book and incorporate it your life. Live every day like it’s your last, because life is short. Quit hating yourself for your perceived flaws that no one else notices. Spend moments each day treating yourself to something simple that you love such as a smoothie or a delicious iced tea with a mint sprig. Take a moment to breath in the fresh air, sit in the sun or meditate. These small changes add up and you start feeling better about your life and you become happier regardless of your circumstances. I love how honest and real she is. She is never afraid to let people know exactly how she’s feeling or what she’s thinking at any given moment. If you get this book, it just may help you feel a little happier. I cannot recommend it more.

a good read.
I have always loved and admired Valerie bertinelli. Listening to this being read by her is so heartwarming. Her love for her ex is so special and the way they raised their son is a testament to their mutual love and respect. Kudos to them. Rip to Eddie. I am glad this wasn’t a bashing of her ex Tom rather a book about forgiveness and joy. So uplifting. We can’t have joy without grief.

Honest, entertaining and so relatable
Valerie put it out there for the world. The hurt. The pain. The desire to want JOY and LOVE more than anything. Although I’m younger than she is, I relate to her story so much. The years I spent dieting and trying to be a “perfect size and weight.” For what? Innately, I just want to be me, JOYfilled and loving my life. There are so many pages of this book I highlighted to remember. The main theme I am taking, take care of me - mind and body and the rest will fall into place. As Valerie says, “enough already.” Why chase the “perfect size, weight or shape?” Live with more love for the woman I am today. It took her going on the Today show to learn that’s what she’s truly been chasing. And dang if I don’t feel that too! Thank you Valerie for an incredibly raw book and a glimpse into the woman you’re working to be. Oh and for the yummy recipes I can’t wait to try.
