They are 12 volt DC. No ballast

Q: What is the wire gauge?

I bought a set of these. They are very bright and seem well-made, but I don't believe the wire is 18 gauge. I measured a factory soldered end with my digital caliper (I don't have a micrometer) and found it to be 0.007 inches in diameter. It was a rough measurement but it approximates 33 AWG. I'd say it was at most 30 AWG wire, which is too fine for connecting with typical automotive connectors so I plan to solder each (very fine) LED wire to a short length of red or black 22 AWG wire. I'll use red & black parallel wire, which is compatible with the heat shrink crimped spade connectors I use when assembling an RV wiring harness.

You have to be very careful with the lights. I had a couple of mine go out because of the wires in the back of light. They are very small and easy to break... reason I found this is I took the broken ones apart and tested the led and it still worked.
