Knitting for Him: 27 Classic Projects to Keep Him Warm Paperback – September 25, 2007

I bought this book based on other customer recommendations. I just went through this book to find a good basic pattern to knit for my husband. I am an intermediate knitter but have not knit a sweater in 40 years. I found not one good pattern but several. All are "man" sweaters with enough variety and styles to please anyone. The book ranges from a simple guernsey to a cricket sweater with cables. It also has very attractive scarves. There is a simple striped one on the front that I want to try.My only slight negative is that a couple of pictures showed the back of the sweater only, so that I could not easily tell what the front looked like. I wish they had shown the front on all pictures.With that said, I can not wait, to start my project.

This patterns in this book cater for the more mature man. There are a number of jacket patterns, which are hard to find for men, as well as sweaters including one gansey and one guernsey, vests, three scarfs, and a pattern each for mittens, socks and beanie. Most of the patterns are classical in style; some use contemporary color schemes to make them appear more modern and to appeal to the younger man.

I recently purchased a "gently used" knitting book. My husband saw a sweater he wanted me to knit for him in this book so I was anxious to get started. At first I was skeptical about not buying "new" but I was very pleasantly surprised. The book arrived in perfect condition (considering it is a softcover this is amazing to me). I couldn't even tell it was a used book. I am very pleased with all my purchases with Amazon and will have no problems buying from and recommending Amazon in the future.

I bought this book because I wanted to knit something special for my husband and for my adult son. Neither of them is fussy, but neither of them could find anything in this book that appealed to them. They like simple, masculine styles, nothing flashy or too "unique". I don't know what was "off" for them in this book, but they both leafed through this book quickly and were "done". Just not their taste, I guess. Both found patterns elsewhere.

I was pleased with this book because it has so many sweater projects for men! Most are pretty classic in style, though with updated details and colors. Many are intermediate- to advanced level projects, though. All in all, I would buy this one again.

I'm tiring of the many knitting books that continue to offer yet another trendy felted bag, leg warmers, capelet (*who* wears those anyway?), poncho (personally, I was happy never to see these again after 1976), iPod cover (really, does your iPod need a knitted garment?). You get the idea. This book offers beautiful, classical sweaters. Practical, elegant. Ten years from now they will continue to impress and you won't scratch your head pondering, "What was I thinking?"

I was hoping to get a book that would be as good as Scarf Style with knits specifically for men. Unfortunately I found the patterns bit confusing.My main problem with this book is that there is a "knitting information" section with hardly any information on e.g. how to stitch seams or which increase/decrease to use on a pattern other than stockinette (and there is no information on this in the patterns either). A big problem is that even though there is a section that explains how to finish off the type of sleeve, and each pattern has a picture of the type of sleeve, there's no information indicating what type of sleeve is what. In other words, there are pictures in the patterns that don't tell you the type of sleeve, and explanations of the sleeve type in the "knitting information" section and no pictures at all. And and there is missing cable instructions for the cabled v-neck pattern.I can't really say if these patterns are for advanced knitters but even if it is, I think there should still be something in the book to guide those who feel they are ready to go into the world of sweater/cardigan knitting without completely confusing them.

Well written - clean and coisncise. I will definitely be knitting a sweater from this book.

Book was listed as new condition but what arrived (a day later than scheduled) has had the spine cut off and been rebound with a broken plastic spiral and the covers glued together with sharp edged plastic. The binding cuts into the info and diagrams throughout so most of the patterns are useless. This is not what I paid for.

I was very disappointed with this book. The pictures look great but the patterns are horrible . I made the fingerless gloves. The pattern was poorly written and I (an intermediate knitter) had to get help to complete a project that should have been easy. Also , there was only instruction given for one size. When finished, they barely fit my hands, never mind the hands of the 6 foot man I was knitting them for. I was looking forward to completing many of the projects in this book, but the patterns were so poorly written, I gave the book away. Don't waste your money (or yarn) on this one.
