Can these be applied by hand? Can they be molded to the edge of the item to be glued?

These should be applied with the dispenser. If you would like to apply by hand then you should get the craft dots on a roll that comes in a box. see link at the end of this message for this product. These would be 1/2" dots instead of 3/8" dots and should be able to be molded to the edge. When applying the dots do not touch them with your fingers but rather take the dot with the release liner to your project, press it down and then remove the release liner. If you want to mold it to the edge do so with the liner in place so you can use the liner to mold the dot rather than your fingers.
