How much weight does this support?

Around 5 lbs but if you open it all the way it bends, dont matter if you put less weight.

Can this be used as a T-shape?

I don’t think so. It has holes on either end of the top bar but nothing in the center.

How is the velcro end closure supposed to be used? There is a strip of velcro across the top edge but I don't see what that is to attach to..

One thing I can tell you is this: if you're over 6 feet tall, this frame is too short to hold your backdrop at a sufficient height. Mine is collecting dust, while I just stapled velcro to the top seam of the backdrop cloth, and attached it to a wall with command strip stickers.
