Top math concepts book!
Absolutely fabulous book! Leave it hanging around for kids ( and adults) to explore. Fun drawings and great descriptions of math concepts. Would be great for homeschooling math add on—do one page a day as a review, either overview or in depth with physical things for kids to manipulate.

My son loves this book!!!
My 8 year old son loves this book. He loves math and this book presents math concepts in such a unique and fun way. He likes the drawings of the animals and gets a kick out of all the things they do, while learning all these neat math concepts. He knows a lot of them already, but it's still fun to see it and in my opinion it reinforces why math is relevant and fun and not dry. I enjoy the book myself!I wish I had a book like that when I was a kid. It makes math applicable. I loved the way they describe ratios: they get two different colors of paint and use the ratio 3:1 to paint the mammoth purple. Since the mammoth is big they show how much of each paint it will take to paint him purple (so keeping the ratio fixed), and they even draw all the paint cans! It's really great! At the end they use fractions to show how much of each paint is used out of the total # of cans used.Every page is creative in its own way. It goes over fractions, decimals, etc. My son enjoys reading it. He also has the science Mammoth book which is also amazingly clever. I wish I could give more stars. The book can appeal to kids of any age I think. Just like we give kids books before they can read, kids can look at this too before they know all these math concepts. I think it helps kids see that math is not scary but fun!

Math for Everyone!
Mammoth Math describes and exemplifies a variety of math concepts, including basics of numbers, operations, geometry, measurement, statistics and more. Learn math with mammoths and elephant shrews through written and illustrated concepts. It’s not everyday that an engaging math text makes an appearance, but Mammoth Math is an excellent and accurate resource. As a math teacher for over a decade, I have taught, both directly and indirectly, every concept within David Macaulay’s engaging book, and have discovered new methods to describe different mathematical concepts. Beginning with basic number sense and counting, Mammoth Math is engaging for readers of all ages.Beautiful illustrations embody the mathematical concepts, bringing them to life and providing background for those who are more visual learners. Each set of two pages describes a different concept, and topics flow smoothly from one to the next. Early concepts focus on the basics of number sense with counting and number operations. Moving next to fractions and decimals, and then organized by various branches of mathematics, the table of contents as well as the index in the rear of the book make individual concepts easy to find. For those who simply wish to read the story through, the concepts build and even reference previous or upcoming connected concepts by page number, giving a cohesiveness to the book. This accurate, simple and engaging informational book belongs on the shelf of all parents, math teachers and librarians. There is something for everyone in Mammoth Math. Highly recommended.
