Very enjoyable
An interesting and exciting story. The heroine did annoy me a little especially when she was irrational. No loose ends. Just wish Flint had been reprimanded.

An interesting find
Starts a bit slow to build atmosphere but the characterisation is very good and believable. The plot is a bit staid with characters behaving incredible naively. However a good twist in the romance was a refreshing change to other books in this genre. I will certainly read more from this author

Magnificent read
As a frequent visitor to the wonderful town of Whitby, I was immediately drawn to this title!Beautifully written by Jan Durham it is such a refreshingly easy read. Whitby is described in excellent detail with only a few made up bits along the way. The story itself is well crafted and a delight to read.Look forward to the next in the series. Highly recommend. Well done Jan!

Enjoyable start to a series
This was an enjoyable light read. Liz is widowed and living in Whitby with her dog Nelson. While walking Nelson one morning, she discovers a dead body in the grounds of the abbey. Of course, she can't help but get involved in her own investigation despite the best efforts of the local police to warn her off. This is a cozy read. There's no graphic descriptions and I read it quite quickly. I like Liz, still grieving for her dead husband , although she is a bit of a nosey parker. Her gang of friends are also decent characters and the standout one for me is Tilly, with her different style of dress and her not so normal background. I felt it was a decent hook as the first book in a series goes and I will read the next to see what more situations Liz and Nelson can get themselves into.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

What a great Cozy-Crime read? Look no further!
Visited Whitby and loved the place, then saw this on Amazon so thought I’d give it a go. I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed the whole thing! Adorable characters (not least Nelson the dog), superb setting, and fantastic storytelling. There are 2 further books in this series both of which are as hugely enjoyable as this fabulous first instalment in this charming, funny, and genuinely engaging series.Try it, you won’t regret it.

Clever and intelligent
Easy to like protagonist and intriguing, well described setting. Good plotting as our heroine reconnects with likeable friends after losing her husband.

An enjoyable read!
I thoroughly enjoyed this first of a series, and will continue on to the rest. I visited Whitby as a child when my grandfather had permission to park his caravan in a farmer’s field near the abbey.so it was fun to revisit Whitby through this book.

An Enjoyable Series
With interesting characters and clever plots, this cozy series doesn't disappoint. While the series follows the main them of the genre, i.e., nosy, amateur, female sleuth "helping" local law enforcement, it is well written and kept my interest. My lack of 5 stars stems for the repetitive descriptions of, for example, the protagonist's dog and the reasons she had no children, were superfluous after the first book. Those examples and others could be dealt with in subsequent texts better than a cut and paste. The repetition from book to book after the first book, for me, takes away from the the rest of the books.

Lighthearted Fun
I do love a good cozy mystery and this fits so well. Liz, a retired A&E nurse has moved to Whitby post her husband's death. She's smart, observant, and with a curious mind that just won't quit! She's joined by a town of well written, vibrant characters who make Whitby sound fun and lively. Just the ticket for a good read on a Sunday afternoon. Enjoy.

first in series
Engaging story of an older widow in small village in Yorkshire who investigates the murder of local. Stronger characters then you usually see in this kind of plot raises it above the ordinary.
