Finally, a decent alarm clock!!
I bought the black with white face model and love it. Any item that includes the required batteries is a plus in my book. I have been looking for a new battery alarm clock to replace one that is now 13 years old and not sounding so good anymore. I have bought a few (well known brand names) for nearly twice as much as this one only to have them break or not work properly in a very short amount of time. This Marathon is absolutely silent. No tic, tic sound at all. It is keeping very accurate time. NOTE: it appears the reviews for this clock and an atomic setting one have been merged. The clock I have and am reviewing is just your basic manual set clock, which is just what I wanted. Something I think is pure genius and not prominently advertised about this one is the alarm on/off feature. That red button on top of the unit. When it's in the up position the alarm is on, when it's down the alarm is off. It takes a deliberate effort to turn it off. Unlike so many others, including my expensive electric clock radio, where it is easy to accidentally turn off the alarm when all you meant to do was hit the snooze. Pressing the snooze bar activates the back light for a few seconds. It is a soft yellowish light that doesn't startle or hurt your eyes in the dark. I haven't used the constant back light feature yet. The alarm itself is loud enough to wake without scaring the life out of you. All in all, if you're looking for a basic battery alarm clock with thoughtful conveniences, this is it!!

Just what I really wanted
I have been a Seiko plastic clock fan for about 10 years. I found that they don't bounce well, so I began the process to buy another clock. I put a lot of trust in reviews and the newer Seiko alarm clocks just don't hit the mark anymore. I liked the style and function of the Marathon. It probably won't bounce well but comes with a strong rubber strip that keeps if from sliding around. The alarm sets in both directions. My initial replacement was a tiny Peakeep that was cute but don't dare turn the setting knob in the wrong direction. I settled on the Marathon and have a new favorite clock! After reading the review of the included batteries, I saved them for my wireless mouse and put in some new Duracells. Marathon should stress the night light (switchable) is very bright unlike Peakeep or even Seiko.

Classic perfection
I was looking for a classic and elegant, yet functionally modern, bedside alarm clock. The Marathon ticks off all those boxes. It’s truly silent and it’s style stands out. Super easy to set-up and use. The alarm is loud enough to wait you up, but it’s not obnoxious. The amber glow, when turned on, looks fantastic, and the auto-detect feature dims it in a dark room (I sleep with it off). Highly recommended.

Quality analog clock
This little clock looks nice and exudes quality. It's very simple & intuitive to operate (set the time, alarm, etc.), and is virtually silent (only if you hold it right against your ear can you hear the mechanism). The backlight could be a bit brighter - we have it on a dresser about 8' away and can just barely make out the display at night. It should be fine at a closer distance (e.g., on a nightstand next to your bed).

Night light feature is great - and doesn’t run down batteries
I’m using this clock in a bedroom to replace an old clock/radio where the LEDs got too dim to read during the day; since I’ve got a smartphone I didn’t need the alarm or radio features anymore. What’s great is that it’s just a regular clock that’s super easy to read during the day even across the room, and at night the white dial lights up with a dim warm amber color that doesn’t disturb sleep.Since the night light is on all night every night, at first I assumed battery life would be significantly reduced - but so far, after 4 months, it is still working fine with rechargeable batteries that I haven’t had to recharge yet.The clock looks nice - not cheap. It feels sturdy, and the red alarm button is a clever design - if you can see it sticking out it, means the alarm is on.I’m not crazy about the design of the clock face - it just looks cluttered. It could be improved by removing the unnecessary extra small 24-hour digits, and making the main digits bigger. Also, the adjustment knob on the back is easy to detach when you pull it out to change the time setting, though it pushes back into place easily.P.S. Since I was worried about this thing eating through batteries, I tried powering it with a Lenink dual AA battery replacer (it’s an AC adapter that outputs DC power via fake batteries). But when I did that the clock ran really slow. Other reviews reported similar problems with clocks.

Best clock I've ever owned.
I've been using battery alarm clocks for over 40 years now, ever since I missed a college final exam when my plugin radio alarm failed me with a power outage (no battery backup). This clock is the best one I have ever owned, bar none. The backlight feature is pleasant and not overwhelmingly bright. It is able to be turned off if you prefer -- a nice touch. The alarm sound is also pleasant and mirrors what I was used to with my last clock (beep-beep-beep-beep). The case is heavy feeling in a way that just screams quality. I at first bought the one with black face, and then bought this one with the white face, as it was a bit easier to read in the middle of the night. I am keeping them both however, since they're such nice clocks. You cannot go wrong with this clock. For me at least, it's perfect.

Broke after 7 years
Clock runs 20 minutes slow each day, even when the battery is measured 1.40V. My Casio clock worked for 20 years, this Marathon clock worked only for 7 years at 3 times the price.Edit: I fixed it by hammering it against a wooden table. Now the time keeping is reasonably accurate, but who knows if one day I will be late for work.
