I purchased two of these retractable pet/baby gates, for the purpose of training Muffin, our semi-feral Ragdoll cat, to stay only in the kitchen and laundry room areas of the household.Regarding the gates, I found the directions to be clear and well illustrated and the installation to be easy, though I chose not to bother with the provided paper templates. I used an emery board to gently file a small but somewhat sharp, protruding surface I encountered on one of the gates, a process that took no more than 10 seconds.Some reviewers have complained about wrinkles appearing in the screen mesh after repeated openings and closings of the gate. Indeed, the screen mesh is prone to permanent wrinkling...but only if the gate is closed quickly without regard to the angle of the mesh as it is being rewound around the centre of the gate.The simple answer to preventing wrinkles from appearing in the mesh: Holding the end of the screen mesh, keep even tension on the top and bottom of the mesh while carefully rewinding the mesh around the centre. This process works for me; the mesh in both gates remain wrinkle free after numerous closings.About the effectiveness of the gates in keeping our cat within her bounds. For the first month we kept the two gates closed, limiting the cat to our large kitchen and laundry room. Yes, there were a few occasions early on where the cat was found outside her 'enclosure,' but from our reaction to her trespass, she learned where she was supposed to be. While I was concerned about her wriggling under the mesh, the real risk of her 'escape' was her jumping over the gate. On one of her adventures into no-cat's-land, she ran back toward the kitchen and gracefully flew over the gate as if she had wings.Since January 2023 (almost four months ago) the cat has behaved herself, even as we have left the gates wide open 24/7. Who says cats cannot be trained?I cannot speak to how effective the gates would be in keeping toddlers in their place. As a former toddler myself, I like to think that I'd have been able to get past one of these gates, though perhaps lacking the grace of a Muffin.Bottom line: These gates work well for my purpose.

I absolutely love this gate. I was having such a hard time finding one that was long enough to accommodate my needs. The installation was very easy. I love that I don't have to worry about storing a big bulky gate. It retracts right up against the door frame when you don't need to use it.

Terrible quality

Bought 3 gates, but only 1 is this brand. Quality and ease of use of this one is so much better than the other 2. However, the installation instructions are terrible - we figured it out
