Nice Product!
After dealing with salt pouring out of my 20+ year old Olde Thompson salt shaker one too many times, I decided to get a new set. This old shaker had to be filled from the bottom and the silicone plug seems to have worn out. The most important feature for me is that the new one must be filled on the top. I researched and definitely wanted a salt shaker and pepper mill set, not two mills. I ordered this Olde Thompson set and it's exactly what I wanted! I was surprised that it was already filled with salt and peppercorns! It's hefty in size and very attractive. I'm very happy with this product and hope to get as many years out of this as I did with my previous Olde Thompson set. Highly recommend.

These are well made and should be durable.
Strength is not achieved through merely glued-together flat surfaces, as in our previous set. Nice to be able to use iodized salt, which salt grinders cannot seem to allow (we never did find iodized granular salt, with our previous salt grinder) Very satisfied.

Salt and Pepper Shakers
These shakers are ok. They came with salt and pepper in them. The salt was apparently pretty old and stuck together. Once we changed the salt it was ok, but still comes out kind of slow.

Clear sides and fill from top!
I really like this salt and pepper combination. I can see how much is in the shaker and they BOTH fill from the TOP. I really don’t understand why they make salt shakers that fill from the bottom. What a strange concept. You have to cover the top to fill or all the salt runs out the top. It shouldn’t be so difficult to fill a salt shaker.

Not functional
I expected quality from Olde Thompson instead I have a saltshaker that does not work. For starters the salt in the saltshaker was a solid block of salt and difficult break up, once I got most of it broken down to what I thought would be normal consistency I found I could barely get any salt out of the saltshaker, one shake then it stops. There are 5 tiny holes for the salt so I made sure they were clear, then removed all of the original salt and then suspecting moisture may be why the salt would not come out, I blew the inside dry with my hairdryer, still the salt stops after one "shake.' So now I guess two possibilities the 5 tiny holes are too tiny and or not enough, or yet another possibility the salt may be in slightly larger granules, so I replaced all of the salt with Morton's Iodized Salt which does appear to be in slightly smaller granules and there is definitely some slight improvement in terms of the amount of salt that comes out of the saltshaker, but it is still far too little. I have a table saltshaker that has 13 holes of the same size and easily shakes out as much or as little as you want. With this saltshaker I would be worn out just trying to get out a few granules of salt. Unbelievably dysfunctional saltshaker, and I unfortunately threw out all packaging so can only hope we can drill more or larger holes. I have rarely been so disgusted with a product that I expected to be dependable and high quality. I threw out my former Olde Thompson peppermill and saltshaker set in anticipation of receiving the new one, and the old saltshaker worked just fine and was a much smaller set, go figure. Follow up, I now realize the pepper mill only produces very fine granules, disappointing as my old one was adjustable. Anyway, I wanted to add a comment regarding the saltshaker as I tried something that worked for me but would not necessarily recommend it to everyone. I used an awl and gently tapped on some of the holes, and it worked to enlarge them slightly, the metal is very soft so you have to be careful not to overdo it. It has actually increased the flow of salt, so it worked for me.

I really want to rate it a 2, but...
I bought the set because I thought that both items were grinders. It turns out only the pepper shaker is a grinder. The salt shaker is only a shaker. This is my fault. I would not have bought the set if I had known one was as shaker and the other a mill. Now having received the products, I have to say that they are noticeably cheaper in person than they appear in the pictures. They are very lightweight, they hold only a nominal amount of pepper/salt in comparison to the overall size of the item, and they are not made of glass and metal as I supposed, but of plastic throughout. The product is entitled "brushed nickel". This is misleading. It is a brushed nickel look. It's actually made of plastic.

Not typical Olde Thompson quality.
Tried to save money, but you get what you pay for. Underside of salt shaker top was green within a few weeks
