I can't figure out how to download the android api to control the tank using an android phone. Where is it?

To anyone who got this for Christmas 2019. The link to the APP (which is just a .pdf file with a QR code) appears broken. I emailed Yahboom and they sent me this google drive link to download the .apk https://drive.google.com/open?id=1xcmdphHdOiLk_ejr1cQyXjZObg1rG9CE Depending on you Android version you may have to go into settings and allow installation of apps from unknown sources. Otherwise works well.

Does it recharge the battery (via a wall plug) or do you need to change the battery when it's dead?

My kit came with an adapter which plugs into the wall. The battery pack has two different cables: one to plug into the circuit board to power the kit, the other to plug into the adapter to charge the battery; one is male the other female, so you can't confuse them. So, no, it will not automatically recharge the battery: it's done manually

If the raspberry pi board has an hdmi port, why can't i use it for a small battery-powered display?

Sorry, I understand the mistake you made in the last question. If you want to use the Raspberry Pi's HDMI interface to external display, it is ok, but this display is used to display the Raspberry Pi system interface. If your display does not require a driver, you can use it directly. If you need a driver, you need to install the driver to use it properly.
