It's nice!
I bought this cane to replace a cheap, collapsible cane I've been using, and posted a pic for comparison. Solid wood is definitely the way to go! It's much sturdier and looks a lot nicer, too.

Everyday Cane
This is a nice cane. Our only problem with it is that the finish on the Black Cane chips off very easily. If you use this daily and ever drop it or it falls when you have it leaning against something the high gloss finish in the handle will chip an crack. At least with the one we purchased, it has chipped even when it was leaned too roughly in a cane holder. Other than that, it is very sturdy and does not slip when in use.

Lightweight and sturdy
Black hardwood cane is lightweight and yet sturdy [I'm 190# - no prob]. The black finish is convenient when you get scratches - you can use a little shoe polish or a magic marker to cover. Derby handle is comfortable. The brass collar is inconvenient - the edge chafes/rubs against your finger

There was nick and a scratch on the handle. I don't have time to send it back for another one :-(
