Great First Plank on Hull Ship
This is a beautiful model. As with most wooden model ship kits the instructions are not the best, (most are manufactured overseas and the translations in the instructions reflect that,) but with planning, some thought, and referencing the photo pamphlet, parts list and minimal instructions you can complete this model with little difficulty. This is an INTERMEDIATE model, not advanced as suggested by another reviewer. It took me only a month to complete. It has a double planked hull, for which I would seriously recommend the purchase of a plank bender, though I managed to complete the task without one. I am purchasing one for my next model as I enjoyed building this one so much I purchased two more kits that are larger and more detailed than this one.If you are new to wooden model ship building, I would also recommend the purchase of a couple reference books. I purchased two... "Ship Modeling From Stem to Stern," by Milton Roth & "Ship Modeling Simplified," by Frank Mastini. Both are available on Amazon and both in Kindle Editions. While they do not specifically reference this model, they provide all the insight that the instructions, and your desire to create this model, do not. Additionally they include a wealth of information on techniques and pitfalls that you will benefit from knowing. Even with these reference books, I found myself in a couple corners by blindly following the included instructions. My kit was missing the cannon. Thanks to the reference books, I was able to determine scale and turned my own cannon from a wooden dowel, then painted it brass. Other than that, all parts were included and even some additional material left over. Be VERY careful as most of the parts are small. I lost several parts during the construction and had to make a couple to replace them. Tedious and time consuming but worth it to complete the model.I thoroughly enjoyed building this model and would highly recommend it to anyone seeking to know what wooden model ship building is all about. It will either spur you on to bigger and better ships or convince you that this is not a hobby you want to engage in. Either way you will have a wonderful model of this historic ship that you can proudly display.

This is a very nice. It is detailed and takes patience, but the end product is worth it.
This is a nice kit and it requires time and patience. The instructions are good and easy to follow. I would have like a planked deck, but everything else is detailed and creates a wonderful model.

Lots Wrong With This Product
Instructions are brief and incomplete. Photo booklet in very incomplete and many photos are confusing, as in you can't actually tell what you are looking at. The full scale plans are also difficult to make sense of and very incomplete, especially with regard to rigging. Two of the "Precision cut" bulkheads are wildly asymmetric One was off by 6 mm (that's huge on any kit, but on a kit this size it's clearly unacceptable. Another was off by at least 3 mm. I reshaped them, but with no guides my reshaping was at best a wild guess. I have just started, and haven't gotten to planking yet, so I think I'm close, but maybe not close enough. The carronade shows on the box and in the parts list and all of the photos as brass, but it's pot metal. There is weasel language inside the box that says something like "Materials subject to change without notice." You don't get to see that notice until after you open the box. Very disappointed with that. Some wooden parts are badly warped. May be able to work around that. Don't know yet. Belaying of some of the running rigging doesn't make sense. Will probably have to build pin rails and/or use aftermarket pins & cleats. If it's buildable despite the misshapen bulkheads, it will probably be nice looking once completed, but the misshapen bulkheads are a huge issue. Extremely disappointed with the quality of this kit.

Good quality
This was for my husband. This is his first ship kit. The kit is great with everything you need. Instructions are a little vague on the planking but with the help of the internet it was somewhat easy to do. He said that everyone has told him that you need two; one to mess up on and one to finish right. That isn't the fault of the model, rather, the modeler. :)

Happy with the shipping time
Happy with the shipping time, took only a few days. After unboxing and reviewing the parts list it seems everything is inside. Parts seem to be well made and nice looking. BUT, there is a problem with the instructions. No blueprint type drawings at all, only one large two sided color drawing that too me has way too little helpful information. The instruction booklet has only 3 or 4 pages in English. Most of the instructions are in a small color pamphlet, nice looking, but again lacking in detail instructions. I would say that you should find an Unboxing site on Youtube and see for yourself. But I would say that, all in all, I look forward to getting started, it look so much fun.......One last thing the price on Amazon seems to jump all over the place. From $79 to $149 ( mine was $88 ) so I would keep an eye on that.

Challenging and rewarding
This was my first wooden ship project. I found the it both challenging and rewarding. I do think that the project required a great amount of skill. I would not have attempted this advanced level kit as my first ship if I did not have decades of handy man skills at my disposal. Or I would have purchased a simpler kit to begin with. An example of skills and tools required is the tapering of the masts. One mast for example was originally 8mm in diameter and needed to be tapered to 6 mm at the other end. I used a belt sander to accomplish the task. The instructions suggested it be tapered by sanding by hand. That would have taken a long time. Also there was a lot of rigging that needed to be threaded with a needle. So if you have a hard time working with small objects than this might not be the project for you. There was not a single piece of plastic included in the entire kit which is just awesome this day and age. The included flag is a little cheesy looking. It would be nice to have a real cloth flag as the sails are made out of cloth. My ship did not come out perfectly but it looks beautiful and I am sure only an experienced shipbuilder could spot the imperfections.

>Istruzioni montaggio scarne e molto approssimative.

this one is great. As a second build (the 1st one was ...
Other than what seems to be the usual maladies of AL kits, this one is great. As a second build (the 1st one was AL's HMS Endeavour Longboat), this one took me about 150 hours, and I've enjoyed every bit of it.Instructions are fairly rudimentary, and as usual, there's nothing on techniques, so you need to do the research if you haven't done something like this before. However, there's a big (A0 or something) two-sided 1:1 plan, which makes things way easier. Still could do with a fair bit more of clarity - you can't always see things clearly enough, so you have to guess/adlib/go by what you know about real ships. It looks like pictures in the booklet and on the plan are from different builds - that's just confusing. Some things on the pictures are not mentioned in the instructions, e.g., drain holes in bulwarks, whatever the right term for them is. Some bits (especially the metal ones) actually need painting - they are nice bronze on pictures, but cheap grey alloy in the kit, which doesn't look nice at all; acrylic won't work on it, but Hammerite does it. There are some errors on the plan - e.g., the same bit of rigging could be indicated as different diameters on different pictures. One of the pictures, the one that looks spaghettified - you'll know what I mean when you see it - is so baffling, I still have no idea what it was supposed to show. Thread, unlike with my first kit, is plentiful - I've got loads left over - but wire isn't. I would have ran out if I didn't discover that the brass one you can get off Rioja bottles works a treat and looks better (especially after Rioja). I got a few single blocks left, but one double short. The most baffling thing was that although I followed the instructions to the letter, and it's generally hard to get things wrong with laser-cut pieces, the stern worked out half an inch too tall, and I had to extend the rudder at the bottom. I will gladly accept I managed to get something wrong, but what? Everything else is OK.There were a couple more minor things like mis-numbered parts or the use of thick ply on curved parts such as the coachroof. In case of the latter, it wouldn't bend enough, and you can't soak it; so I ended up just doing a double-planked roof with leftover wood.Having said this, these are niggles rather than serious issues, and the kit is something like 95% good. I wouldn't recommend it for a complete beginner, though - the techniques aren't much more difficult, but the confusion around plans etc. might make it too complicated.
