We have quite a few books by Donaldson. This one is not my favorite one but it is cute. It reads well and has lovely artwork.

Beautiful book, daughter LOVES it
My daughter loves all the Julia Donaldson cartoons and the children's books and they are based on. This book is an excellent addition to her bookshelf as we collect all of Julias books. Definitely a great book for little ones

Great book!
My boys and I have loved everything Julia Donaldson we've read. They're now ages 7$&8 and have been reading her books since about age 5. They're creative, unique stories and are fun for the parents to read too. Highly recommend!

Good story but might not be for everyone
My kids found this story to be more on the sad side. It’s a good story with a great storyline, but it’s a little sad the stick man gets taken away from family and goes through a lot. He is gone a while then goes back home.

Odddest Plot
We enjoyed the plot, its very silly. I like that StickMan can be anything your imagination can dream of. And then.... Santa shows up. I thought it was more of a Christmas book so I bought it for the holiday season. My daughter liked the rhyme scheme and finding the Gruffalo ornament on the Christmas tree. Great Illustrations - Mediocre Plot.

My Grandson loves it ... and so do I
We found the stick man figure first and then began looking for the book. It is delightful. Heartwarming story. It is partially a Christmas story, but more about the closeness of the stick family. Well written and easy to read aloud to the kids. Neato illustrations. We later found the Stick Man cartoon, which actually fills in the book nicely. Highly recommended. I hope it becomes a Christmas tradition.

Delightful and makes reading to a child magical
Arrived earlier today, when my Grandson was at our home.He already has the book and loves the animated cartoon which tells the story. He saw me remove the book out and put it on the side in the hall. Later, while in the lounge he said read me Stick Man - he is just 2 and a half. To recognise the book without any vocal hint just from a quick sight of its cover is testament to this book’s appeal. He has never sat so good and followed my reading him a book as he did when reading this wonderful book.A simple idea for a story is perhaps the key to its success. It resonates with children of all ages who have needed a stick to finish their snowman or throw for a dog.Julia Donaldson is the go author in children’s books at this age and in Axel Scheffler her illustrator she has a super talented creative genius who works so well to bring her works to life.Using rhyming verse to progress her story the tale goes from fun to fatal finality in a few action packed pages. Nothing is too fanciful here, it is all logical and quite believable; especially when Father Christmas saves the day.My Grandson spotted him immediately. This book made for a special time, reading it with my Grandson today and for that reason alone, it can only be seen as a terrific book.

A rhyming story with a fair number of ups & downs…
…if you are a stick (man) but safely home for Christmas, as it turns out.Sensitive readers may not appreciate the rather troubled time that ‘Stick Man’ is having, but all is well at the end when he is safely back ‘in the family tree’, with his Stick Lady Love and their stick children three!Very young children might appreciate a simplified introduction to Stick Man with the newly released (at the time of writing) chunky board book, entitled Let’s Find STICK MAN innovative with its more durable felt-like material for the 5 lift-the-flaps (Christmas not covered).ooOooBack to the paperback version, currently in hand, a sticker on the front reminds that the title is by the creators of The Gruffalo ~ TITLE: STICK MAN~ AUTHOR: JULIA DONALDSON~ ILLUSTRATOR: AXEL SCHEFFLER~ PUBLISHER: ALISON GREEN BOOKS/SCHOLASTIC~ 2008‘Printed in Italy’From the back cover:🌳 'Stick Man lives in the family treeWith his Stick Lady Love and their stick children three.'ooOooMeasuring around 22 cm x 27.75 cm, the colourful front cover, with ‘Stick Man’ off on a jog with various creatures looking on, is enhanced by shiny silver colouring that glistens nonchalantly in the change of light. Inside are 32 colourful, shiny finish pages with the story running for 30, over double page spreads. The rhyming text, ENHANCED in places FOR EFFECT, is clear for the best part and easy to narrate. The illustrations are amazing as usual; seemingly simple at first glance but offering scope for much to talk about throughout, including emotions![13 images attached ©Julia Donaldson & Axel Scheffler 2008] Let’s Find STICK MANThe Gruffalo

One of the best children book ever
Wonderful story with heart. One of the best children’s book I have ever read. My 3 year old loved it and was a emotional throughout the story. For a book to make child get emotional and get them to think, that is a big plus for me. The story is extremely well written. Smart, funny, great pace, at times poetic. How Julia Donaldson gave a family of stick have feeling, purpose, life and for you to care enough for them, is just genius. This story starts with laughter, leads to a sad and emotional middle and ends with a magical happy end. A book sure to be loved and bring a smile on ever read.

A bedtime favourite
Stick Man is another Julia Donaldson book which is one of my 2 year old’s favourite bedtime stories. It is the story of a stick man who is separated from his family, when he goes for a jog and is picked up by a dog. He then ends up on all sorts of adventures, with the reader wondering if he will ever get home.My daughter is not a particularly sensitive child and like most 2 year olds, just takes things as they come, but she did seem a bit worried about Stick Man being away from his family the first time we read this. This is despite loving Monkey Puzzle by the same author, which is a similar theme of separation. Once we’d read through once and she saw the outcome of the book, she relaxed and now asks for it regularly. The story rhymes and flows nicely. It’s not too long, so holds my daughter’s attention well. My daughter loves shouting ‘I’m Stick Man, I’m Stick Man’ along with the story and it’s been read so often she can recite some parts of the story. It also has a bit of a Christmas twist at the end, so may be a good one to read around that time of year. Monkey Puzzle
