Sharon Stone Put The S in Sexy
I passed this movie up several times because of the negative reviews.BI 2 happens to be entertaining and the twist at the end...Real cute! I did not see it coming. The actors did their job, and the cinematography is on point.Yes Sharon is older as so many have stated, however she knows how to play sexy, simply because she is Diva! Her leading man played his character extremely well.I watch many British films, and this movie is packed with well known British film stars. In my opinion this movie is better than the original because the actors work as a team to take you on a sensual journey . The twist at the end is like"your best flavored filling in the middle of a chunk of chocolate"

Less a Sequel than a Knock-Off
“Basic Instinct 2” is terrible, yes, but it’s a gloriously entertaining terrible. In all fairness, for a past-its-sell-by-date sequel featuring a past-her-prime star, “Basic Instinct 2” is far better than it has any right to be. Director Michael Caton-Jones does what he can to make the movie look classy, though I don’t know if it’s a good idea for an erotic thriller to spend more time in offices than bedrooms. Then again, when your leading man has the sexual magnetism of a desk chair, maybe that makes perfect sense.Of course, we’re not meant to focus on the directing or the leading man’s sex appeal (or lack thereof). Even the movie’s plot doesn’t matter. By 2006 this movie had only one reason to exist: to show that Sharon Stone, on the cusp of 50 when she made this, still had it!People often slam Stone’s acting, but I think that’s unfair. I put her on the same talent-level as Demi Moore: not as good as she thinks she is, but better than people give her credit for. But unlike Moore, Stone knows when to camp it up, and she goes for broke reprising her role as Catherine Tramell in “BI2.” You can tell Stone savors every line of outrageous dialog she utters, tingles at the feel of every sexy costume draped over her bra-less breasts. “BI2” is her showcase, but even she doesn’t take it that seriously. But while Stone treats her character as a joke, she takes herself *very* seriously and wants everyone else to do the same. Characters are constantly mentioning how beautiful, sexy and brilliant Catherine (i.e., Stone) is, and there are more than a few moments when characters gasp when she enters a room, her beauty and sexiness rendering them speechless. And how else to explain the casting of David Morrissey, as the psychiatrist with whom Catherine matches wits? Though his performance is competent, Morrissey isn’t exactly a hunka burnin’ love. (It should be noted that he doesn’t look bad undressed, so there’s that). Stone reportedly turned down Benjamin Bratt for the male lead because she didn’t think he was good actor. Um, OK, if she says so. I’m sure it had nothing to do with her not wanting play opposite another charismatic screen presence who might draw the teensiest bit of attention away from the awesomeness that is Sharon Stone. The only actor in this movie to challenge Stone’s scenery-chewing is David Thewlis, as the detective who “wants that [rhymes with runt] in jail!” Charlotte Rampling (I know, right?) is also on hand, and while she turns in a relatively dignified performance there are many scenes in which she appears to be fighting back a giggling fit. Also look for Indira (“Game of Thrones”) Varma in a small role.“BI2” is less a sequel than a knock-off, having more in common with the “Basic Instinct” copycats that flooded video stores in the 1990s than with the original film. In fact, change a couple character names and make the movie’s one-time subtitle “Risk Addiction” the main title and you’d have the best Shannon Tweed erotic thriller not starring Shannon Tweed. Making the movie in 1996 instead of 2006 might have helped, too. Instead, “BI2” is too much, too late, too bad—and too awesome for fans of camp cinema to pass up.

Great Way to Pass the Afternoon...For Intelligent Grown-Ups
Sharon Stone's comeback as feminist powerhouse mystery author Miss Katherine Trumell really, really delivers exactly what Sharon Stone (particularly Basic Instinct I) fan's have come to expect. Nothing but non-stop thrills, laugh out loud, dry, quippy dialogues, fast sports cars, a lot of sexuality in terms of special effects, wardrobe and use of adult language in the script. Critically speaking it is of course not the shocker of Basic Instinct I, but that was 23 years ago. Sharon Stone's performing does stand up to the test of time though, but like the majority of Hollywood sequels, particularly highly anticipated ones...this one did not include any of the supporting cast. However it was pretty highly charged. I would recommend to consenting, forward thinking adults.

My recommendation; See the original
This appears to be a remix of the SAME ideas/ideals around what once was considered an excellent mystery thriller. "Basic Instinct" was a great movie in the early 90's. As far as I can tell, having only watched the first 1/3 of this movie; it's too predictable for me, and besides, I had plenty of Sharon Stone's character watching the first one. If memory serves me, I re-watched Basic Instinct probably 3 times since it first came out...I am not sure why. The first time, in theaters, well that was a good view... but now, why watch "2"? I have to just abort this viewing, I think I can predict the scenes from where I stopped... Seems to have been ALREADY DONE those decades ago... the spooky ending of the first Basic Instinct fulfilled the premise. IN no stretch of the imagination could the character Stone played long, long ago be in such good shape or even still alive...So...I see we have Sharon Stone needs some income? The hype around this "2", well, that got me close to giving it a try... But I finally had to admit that I was only trying to give "Sharon Stone the person" a break by viewing this... so...I have confused myself. I guess she managed to build a decent brand i her acting career. I just don't think the premise of this movie was good for more than one installment. I am not sure what I was thinking... basically I guess I pre-imagined that the filmmakers would take a risk...but such a stupid thought...why? Basic Instinct, well, it's a brand and I guess Sharon tone is equal to the brand, so deeply tied to it for the reason of removing her underwear for a scene...got it... So...I suppose this was guaranteed payday for her, doing "2"... got it... AND I GUESS there are a few viewers who weren't yet born when the first one was made... so... reverse engineering a brand... great premise. I think it must have worked for Sharon, I clicked on this one... gave it an hour of my time, now here I am typing a 'review"... I think I am worried that I might just have to stop watching movies for awhile... where is there EVER an original idea? these days??

Ludicrous but all good fun
It took a long time coming but thank goodness for Basic Instinct 2. This film is basically rollicking good fun. The plot is ludicrous beyond belief but that is what makes this film so watchable. It all starts off with a high speed car drive in a traffic-free London (traffic-free London - can you believe that?) and then proceeds to become a psychological thriller with plenty of psycho but not much logical. The plot has more twists and turns than a twisty thing as psychoanalyst Michael Glass (David Morrissey) ultimately loses his mind to Sharon Stone's Catherine Tramell, the hot blond novelist with the hot body and the hot-tub. If that really is a natural Sharon Stone, then it is no wonder that David Morrissey looks stunned most of the time. It is a great pity that there is no UK Blu-ray with which to enhance my viewing enjoyment of Sharon Stone in the buff. The Uncut DVD has a quoted run time of 109 minutes and aspect ratio of 2.40:1. Sound options are Dolby stereo and 5.1. Extras include deleted scenes and alternate ending, commentaries and a making-of featurette.

Basic Instinct 2
I really enjoyed Basic Instinct (1) so it was natural for me to buy the sequel. However, while the sequel is also good, it is not quite in the same class as the original. This seems to happen with a lot of second and third attempts to keep the original magic alive. Pity. Perhaps a part of the original magic was the fascinating interaction between Sharon Stone and Michael Douglas. That really was something quite beyond normal acting. In the sequel Sharon Stone still preforms perfectly but Michael Douglas isn't there and the same magic interaction seems to be missing. Let me hasten to add that it is still and excellent movie and that anyone seeing the sequel before having seen the original will probably be delighted..

WHATCHOUT FOR THE ICEPICK!
The Sequel from 2006 gets SO much hate, but to ME - this is better than the original 🙂 I have always loved this one more than the original. I HAD to get the UNCUT VERSION because it is LESS rushed than the Standard Cut you can see on TV. This is a replacement for my original DVD getting scratches after dropping it on the floor 😅 Delivery date 24/2/22.

Not that bad basically.
The main problem with this film was going to be trying to live up to the first which is a classic steamy thriller. This had too much to live up to in comparison but it still passes as an ok thriller. Not quite as steamy as the first, but there is some sexual tension between Stone and the detective. There are a few sex scenes but nothing different from most films of this type. Stone does still look very sultry. The story is ok and as it progresses more plot twists come up with different suspects with various good reasons, could be the killer. By the end of the film you could be left wondering who was the killer and who used who as a cover up story. Overall better than a lot of thrillers but far from a classic like the first one. 6/10

Instinct to bin
I had high expectations for this film believing it might be on a parr with the original but to no avail.Thankfully I purchased the DVD on an offer so I had little reservations in putting in the file marked 'bin' where all the other rubbish films go.
