Whistling Whales: Beyond the Sounds of ABC

It only took me two weeks into Foundations Level A to realize that these supplemental phonogram-focused books would be of great help to teaching new concepts to my children. Of the several items I didn't purchase (to save money because this is an expensive curriculum, particularly for elementary grades), these supplemental books (Doodling Dragons, Whistling Whales, Knitting Knights) were items I set out to purchase after my original bulk curriculum purchase. I am SO thankful I could get them via Amazon Prime so that I could incorporate them into our lessons in just two days! They are simple, sure. But they make sense... Which is the secret to LOE: It all just makes sense!

If you are doing the Logic of English program. I highly recommend this book along with the Knitting Knights. I didn't get the first book because I thought it was not necessary but I have a boy is struggling and so I thought I would get these books to help him see the phonograms more clearly in words and hear the different sounds they make and I am so glad I did. It reinforces the sounds by giving a picture and color coding the phonogram in the word. It has helped my son so much to have that visual along with the auditory. We read about five to ten pages every lesson ending with the new phonogram that is being taught in the lesson. I love them.

Logic of English is a great way to teach reading. I have taught 3 kids to read (plus a 3 year old great-granddaughter who is now reading fluently), but I didn't know all of the sounds that the 26 letters make. I used this to present these sounds to this great-granddaughter and to learn them myself!

Curriculum that goes with this book is fantastic (Logic of English Foundations B). Buying it here saved me cost of shipping. This is an optional item, but great for daily reinforcement of phonograms. Bright & colorful. Cute pictures. My kids remember a lot from the first book in this series, Doodling Dragons, ("wash the walls" & "snakes ate grapes").

Bought for our Foundations B curriculum. Although these supplemental books are not needed to complete the program, they are fun to use. My son really likes the funny pictures and sentences.

My little boys love listening to this book (all 3 in the series actually!)!!My 6 year old has gotten better at reading on his own since I started reading these books to him several times a week.

This is a great educational book to use with phonics instruction.
