I purchased both this kit and Byncceh Gemstone Dig Kit here on Amazon as Christmas gifts, getting both because there were only six overlapping gems between the two sets. This was easily the less expensive of the two sets. So far, all the stones recovered from this set have been larger than those from the other. This kit also includes individual identification cards and a map showing the origin of each specimen. The other set includes neither of these educational tools. Although the other one has fancy pink blocks, if I were to purchase the same type of gift again in the future, this would definitely be the one I would purchase. More value for less expense. Note: this is not an instant gratification project, especially for a child, so if you were buying for an impatient sort, you might be better just purchasing a collection of polished rocks. However, the group of children who received these sets ranged in age from 3 to 7 years old, and they were all capable of excavating the rocks and enjoyed doing so one per day over Christmas vacation.

I bought these as a fun and educational time filler the day before winter break. Never done it or anything like it before…tbh, we’re not even studying rocks and miners now…but holy moly they were a hit! Most were mislabeled according to their number label but kids had a lot of fun figuring out what the uncovered. Many asked for another go, but I couldn’t do it for a class of 24 more than once. I do hope to do it again for future students.

I purchased this for my great niece who loves asking me about my own crystal collection. She's become interested in the healing properties of Aunt Grannie's crystal's and I thought it was time for her to start a collection of her own. I thought she'd have more fun using this kit. I added a small book on crystal's for beginners. She was so excited and couldn't wait to get home and start her discovery process.

My daughter loves rocks and loves the digging aspect of this type of toy. It makes a big ol mess but she had tons of fun. The rocks are very pretty and it came with cards and a chart with info on each type of stone.

My 6 year old nephew thought this was the coolest toy. He really enjoyed it and spent a ton of time telling me all about it. Very good gift.

Bought these for a Christmas gift for my grandson. He loves them and the gems inside are very pretty.

The rocks are not numbered correctly according to the guide.

This activity was great for learning and having fun. However it was very disappointing when 2 of my students found nothing in their block after putting lots of effort into it.
