he gave his fans a truly amazing and strong female character whose stories where electrifying
Robert Ellis has always been one of my favorites since his first book. When he created Lena Gamble, he gave his fans a truly amazing and strong female character whose stories where electrifying. Then, he gives his fans a new character, Matt Jones, in City on Fire. Than Lena makes an appearance is just icing on the cake. In The Love Killings, Mr. Ellis continues the story of Matt Jones, a story that takes him across the country to Philadelphia. Needless to say, this was just another amazing book by this brilliant author. The story was mesmerizing. You just could it down. And I found myself rereading many pages just to soak in their beauty. The reader will experience such a wide range of emotions - fear, dread, laughter, sadness and shock! Some parts of the book simply reduced me to tears. The words are powerful, the emotions deep, the shock head-shaking and the sadness real. I find that I am sad that I finished the book so quickly since I know that I will have to have serious patience waiting for the next one. Thank you Robert Ellis for another wonderful book and the time spent enjoying it! Just a note - you really need to read City on fire before you read The Love Killings. Believe me, you reading pleasure will be doubled!!

I won a copy of the e-book version in a giveaway and here is my honest review:This is a solid crime novel that had several twists I didn't see coming. The story moves along at a good pace which is nice because some authors tend to drag out a story too much where you begin to lose interest. It is the perfect vacation read and I would recommend it to anyone that is a fan of author Michael Connelly. I'm going to pretend that Detective Matt Jones and Harry Bosch have crossed paths due to the fact they are both LAPD detectives. In all seriousness though, I think if you like Michael Connelly's writing style you will want to add Robert Ellis as a new author to check out.The Love Killings is the second book in the series of books featuring Detective Matt Jones. It isn't a requirement to read the first book because the author does a nice job in providing all the background info you need to know. However, I found the main character's back story interesting enough that I might have to go check out the first book. I definitely will be on the lookout for a third Matt Jones book because I am intrigued in where the story goes from here.

Another great Robert Ellis book
Gotta' give this a four star, as this is another really god Robert Ellis book. I really like the main character and the fact that you are not forced to read the first book in order to enjoy the second one. I did not go for five stars, as this book was a little less engrossing than the first, or maybe I was just expecting more, as everything nowadays seems to have to be bigger and louder than the previous version. Still great and still looking for more from this author and about this character. Nicely done, and the violence made the story and was not gratuitous. Not a lot of ugly language, just a really good read. Oh, the first one I got for free, and I happily paid for this one!

Great murder mystery
This book has started out with a bang! Five of 'em to be specific. It's a mass murder mystery and the mass murders are not pretty. It's fast paced. It's got enigmatic characters, dramatic prose, gruesome imagery and fascinating criminal concepts. This book is straight forward (or is it?) The pacing is fast but the meaning of the murders is unfolding so slowly. That, to me, is good suspense. It is very well written and it's quality is consistent. As a sequel, this book had a lot of potential. It sure as hell delivered because this book was written with purpose. Lots of great twists and some really good characters you will like. Fair warning though: this book is about a mass murderer and not for the faint of heart! Enjoy!

A Good Read
This is the second in the Matt Jones detective series. It's not quite as good as the first but it's still fine and worth reading. Those of us who read a great deal know that not every book you buy is going to be a 5-star read so the books one tier down are critical to keeping one amused. This is something of a continuation of the first book where the infamous Dr. Baylor is seemingly continuing his murderous work- but is he? Detective Jones is tasked with helping the FBI find out, and as usual that group is staffed with incompetent bureaucrats interested in closing a case, preferably with some positive press. Jones fills the proper profile of the detectives we like the best; somewhat anti-social, unlucky in love, disrespectful of authority. The only missing trait is the drinking problem but what the hey. I'd suggest reading these books in order (City of Echoes is the first) as they do work best together. It's obvious from the ending that there will be more to come.

Top stuff, Matt Jones books 1 & 2, just great.
In my opinion it is important to read these two excellent stories in sequence. Gripping from start to finish. Wonderful tales, twists throughout. Will now read all Robert Ellis I can.

Absolutely another good read
GrippingGood follow on from City of Echos which you do need to read first to fully understand the connections and story in full. Now looking to see if there is another chapter in this series (will be so disappointedted if not)

Ellis knows how to write a thriller! From the first sentence to the last, the reader is caught up in the atrocities that Detective Matt Jonesmust deal with ,including his own personal ghosts and struggles.
