At least ten times faster
The museum I volunteer at purchased a Viisan K21 scanner. It was so much faster that we opted to get a second Viisan scanner. The S21 is an even better fit for some of the projects we need to do, like digitizing early newspapers. The K21 was at least ten times faster than what we were doing. The other volunteer using the S21 said it was even quicker than the K21 and could cover larger documents. He said that it scans as fast as you can put the piece of paper down, remove it, and put another one down. Another plus. It doesn't have the scanning sound that our Epson scanner makes. The other volunteers in the work area couldn't handle the noise; we didn't scan when they were there. So now, we can scan without driving others crazy. We initially had problems getting the software to execute properly. I emailed the Viisan help desk and quickly got a response that they had just published a new version. Once we downloaded that, the S21 worked well. The image quality is good. Some hints. You can only use one Viisan scanner at a time. There are some limits on the file naming pattern you can use, but we easily get around by renaming with free IrfanView software. A friend who has many family history papers got one based on our recommendation, and she loves it. Her great-grandson helped her set it up, and they did a whole archive box in an afternoon. If you have a lot of papers or photographs you wish to digitize, the S21 is well-worth purchasing. We started working on eight full file drawers of papers and wondered if we would ever get them done. But, with the Viisan scanners, we'll be done in a couple of months, not the years we were looking at.

Simple to use, works well for large documents
We have been using two of these overhead cameras (they are not really scanners) to photograph fragile historic newspapers. With the newspaper open on a flat surface, one camera photographs the left and the other photographs the right, each one being controlled by an inexpensive laptop. The resolution isn’t great, so during post processing we have to bump up the resolution using imagemagick. We also use supplemental lighting and turn off the built-in light. My only complaint about the cameras is the hinge doesn’t reliably open to or stay at 90 degrees. Even with these issues, the Viisan cameras offer great value for the money. They produce a better and more economical result than using DSLR cameras.

Help with my VIISAN.
I ordered VIISAN scsnnerfor multiple document processing. I had a difficult tine getting it to work, so contacted tech support. After taking me through all troubleshooting steps, it was determined the device had an issue. The support team arranged for replacement of device and the new device works without any issues. I'm still learning about device, but very happy with it. Thank you to support team. Very professional.

Highly recommend! Great digital archival tool.
Highly recommend. - Not a traditional "scanner" but an overhead high resolution photography 'scanning' device. You need some basic lighting (I used GSKAIWEN LED Video Light Battery Powered Photography Light Portable Handheld Wands -- available on Amazon) knowledge and equipment. The lighting on the scanner itself doesn't work well for most items - especially anything reflective. Overall I scanned newspapers, family scrapbooks, Bibles, objects of all manner (childhood toys, awards, diplomas, etc), and am extremely pleased. - Quite high resolution, and can easily zoom in and read every word of a document. My use has been mainly digital archival of family mementos for long-term digital safe storage.

Not Worth It
I've used various strategies to capture documents and books and I was initially attracted by the 23MP density and large-format scanning. Sadly, the device will not render text with sufficient clarity to take advantage of the sensor size and produce good OCR results; rather, I could get better OCR using my phone or my M4/3 camera. I will be returning this scanner, as it fails at the one job for which I really needed a dedicated device: It's unsuitable for digitizing my personal library of textbooks and literature. If the device's light is off and I use an oblique source of illumination, there is too much noise in the image, not enough contrast. If I increase the ambient lighting or use device's light, I get washout and/or glare that makes texts unreadable. Something in the automatic light sensing and exposure-adjustment either needs refinement or the components are simply not up the task—there is nothing in the software that is available to the user to manually adjust things like focus or exposure.

Scanning is Cool, Editing takes a lot of time
Most of these Book Scanners love to boast about how fast their scanner can scan a book, but it is not how fast the scanner can scan, it is the editing in the app that takes most of the time. Scanning a page per second means nothing if it takes 15 to 20 seconds to edit each page. Most images come out skewed and need to be edited in the app, which is time consuming when you have 200-400 page books to scan and convert to PDF format. It have taken me over 1 hour to scan and complete a 300 page book The app also constantly freeze and shut down when using curve editing instead of straight line editing, which takes more time. And when you go to export the scan into a book, some of the pages turn diagonally. Scan quality come out good once edited, occasionally an scan will be blurred. Overall I give it a 3 Stars. it gets the job done, but it is not great as others.

Very Limited
After spending an entire afternoon with this document scanner (it's really a camera) I decided to return it. My goal was to scan my documents and photos. This product is so so on document scanning. It's terrible for photo scanning. The image quality was unacceptable and the software, while somewhat easy to use, is extremely limited. For the cost of this device, I expected a better quality product in both hardware and software. Steer clear of this one.
