No more turn on thump!
I got this to fix the sub's turn on thump after installing an aftermarket head unit in my ford expedition. 3 quick solder joints and it was good to go! A word of caution: if you get a cheap aftermarket head unit with very little documentation, don't throw out the factory harness until you install this. The new harness had different colored wires and some different pins populated/unpopulated. It was a nightmare digging up the ford documentation on the pinouts for those connectors and matching it up with the aftermarket harness to find the right wires to splice this into.

Worked! No more pop.
Simple device to take care of my amp turn on popping noise. I soldered it to my aftermarket harness using the simple and clear instructions included. I zip ties it to the harness wire bundle and reinstalled everything behind my aftermarket stereo. Very happy that the pop is gone.

WORKED GOOD NO POP
I read reviews before buying, some say it didn’t work. One guy complained about a manufacturer defect. I think most of the complaints about this item not working had to do with not wiring it correctly. Not hard, blue white on head unit plug to blue white on converter wire then connect ground wires, then blue red to the amp turn on plug which is blue white on the vehicle side. I soldered everything together my work is quality! No butt connectors!

Had a major retailer/installer put a new radio head in my Ford Taurus, said the loud pop was normal, all aftermarket radios with built in amps did that and would just have to get used to it. Found this product, installed it myself, and now it doesnt sound like I'm getting shot at each time I turn the car on. Works GREAT! Just follow the directions.

You need this product for premium Ford sound systems.
I have a 2003 ford escape with a premium mach sound system (6 disc, double din factory stereo with amplified system.) I recently wanted to remove the factory receiver in order to put in an aftermarket head unit to get a Aux and USB slot to play music. I bought the appropriate Metra wiring harness and hooked everything up. Bad news Every time I turned on the car, a loud pop could be heard from the speakers. I did some research to find out that most early model fords with premium OEM amplified systems turn on the amp with 5 volts instead of the 12v provided by most modern aftermarket head units. Whenever the car was turned on, 12 volts overloaded the amps with initial power and in turn caused the loud pop. Once installed, this product COMPLETELY eliminates the pop with minimal installation effort if you know what your doing. When this product arrived, I quickly noticed that is was not all like the product pictured. It was better. To my surprise the product that showed up appeared with color coded wires that made the installation of this step down extremely easy. The AFDI-5v comes with three wires and the small voltage converter. The wire colors are as follows 1. Blue/White = connect wire to the aftermarket radio's amplifier turn on wire (will most likely be another blue/white wire) 2. Black= this is the ground and should be connected to the chassis ground found in your wiring harness 3. Blue/Red= connect to the vehicles amplifier turn on wire (find that wire on your vehicle wiring harness, most likely be blue/white) *Make sure you install this product before you completely solder your aftermarket head unit to the vehicle harness or else you will have to cut and re-solder a few wires. Not a big deal, but it's one extra step

Works as Advertised
This does exactly what it says it does. I used this after having some issues with speaker thump after installing an aftermarket head unit on my 2011 Mustang with Shaker Sound System (Phoenix Automotive PX6 Android Radio). There are multiple ways you could go about installing this, but I opted just to solder it and cover the joins with heat shrink tube. At the end of the day, it works perfectly and looks like it's meant to be there! I would extremely recommend this to anyone who has the same problem.

It helps, but doesn't solve the problem completely
It helps, the popping in my car has gotten much softer, but it's still there so it doesn't work 100%

Worked just fine
Purchased this for an aftermarket HU install in a 2010 Ford Explorer with the factory subwoofer. Granted, the factory subwoofer is very lacking, I don't plan on replacing it anytime soon, so rather than hearing the pop every time the ignition is turned on, this was the solution. I followed the directions included and it worked just fine. Pop is gone. Though, I have noticed that the subwoofer does pop when it's turning off. That happens long after you've normally left the vehicle, and don't know if it did it before the aftermarket HU was installed, or if this item even has an effect on that - just want to point out that it's happening. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 for one simple reason - it's a little overpriced. Identical parts can be found on other sites for nearly 50% less, but since I was in a jam and needed this item next day, I ordered it from Amazon and payed the higher price. If you have time, order it somewhere else. Plus, you CAN build one yourself for about $2 in parts from Radio Shack if you have time to wait and know how to use a soldering iron. Again, I was in a jam and made the best of it.

I took the output from a Kenwood Head unit for turning on amplifiers it is 12 volts output and connected it to the 12 volt input of the Axxess Interface AFDI-5V .The output of the Axxess Interface AFDI-5V (5 volt out) I connected (in parallel) to 2 Ford 100 watt RMS amplifiers in a Ford Mustang MACH 460 sound system and no problem supplying enough current to turn them on.The Axxess Interface AFDI-5V ground is grounded to the Kenwood head unit ground wire.This is to stop the turn on thump from the subwoofers;12 volts makes them turn on to soon ;they require 5 volts for the proper time delay. No problems during a long 16 hour drive in my car.
